**”Honda Eyes New European MotoGP Base in Milan to Attract Sterlacchini Amid Competitive Shifts”**
European MotoGP headquarters could lure Sterlacchini to Honda.
Will Honda follow Yamaha's lead by setting up a MotoGP design center in Europe?
The distance between Italy and Austria was mentioned as one of the reasons KTM could not reach a contract extension with Fabiano Sterlacchini. Consequently, it appears that Sterlacchini's next destination will likely be a MotoGP project based in Italy.
Individuals or entities linked to Italy encompass not just Ducati, where Sterlacchini previously worked, but also Aprilia and Yamaha. Yamaha has been assigning more design duties to its Milan headquarters.
Honda seemed unlikely to compete as it only has a logistics hub in Spain, while the engineering work for the RC213V is done in Japan.
However, as reported by Speedweek.com, this situation might be altered with proposals for establishing a new HRC headquarters in Milan, Europe.
This development could position Sterlacchini, the former Vice President of Technology for Road Racing at KTM, as a potential candidate. His name was mentioned in connection with HRC during the Austrian MotoGP weekend.
Stefan Bradl, a test rider for the factory team, mentioned to Speedweek that Honda should not be 'underestimated' even though the RC213V remains near the lower end of the constructors' rankings.
"Honda is making efforts; it's clear that progress is being made," Bradl commented.
Observe Honda's past accomplishments. Similarly, Ducati needed twelve years to clinch a world championship and secure a riders' title following Stoner's victory.
"Do not undervalue Honda; therefore, everyone should stay alert and aware. A time will arrive when events will unfold once more."
In the meantime, Yamaha's chief Lin Jarvis had earlier minimized the likelihood of Sterlacchini becoming part of the M1 project, stating to Crash.net:
"Currently, we are not looking for someone with the same qualifications as Fabiano, but I greatly appreciate the strong personal bond we share and wish him the best moving forward."
