Vinales managed to overtake Bezzecchi for the fifth position shortly before the high-speed crash, and he was able to leave the crash site on foot. In contrast, the Italian racer had to be removed from the gravel area on a stretcher.
According to an Aprilia report, following his crash, Maverick Viñales was promptly examined by the medical center's personnel. The assessment from the medical team and the Aprilia Racing Lifenet Healthcare doctor indicated that Viñales sustained several bruises but no fractures.
"The driver is alert and shows no signs of neurological issues; an ultrasound of the upper arm needs to be considered based on the circumstances."
On Saturday, Aprilia provided a second update regarding Vinales' health status. It stated that after the crash, Vinales was taken to the medical center for an examination, due to a bruise on his left elbow.
There were no broken bones found, but a follow-up ultrasound revealed some minor swelling due to an injury. Consequently, the Spanish cyclist will receive treatment with anti-inflammatory medication.
The VR46 team has announced that Marco Bezzecchi does not appear to have any broken bones. However, he will be going to a hospital in Melbourne for additional tests: "Following an evaluation at the Circuit Medical Centre, Marco Bezzecchi is traveling to Melbourne for more detailed assessments. No fractures have been found."
The absence of Bezzecchi could postpone a decision from the FIM Stewards regarding potential penalties for the crash, which was swiftly placed under formal investigation.
NEWS UPDATE: The FIM Stewards have delayed their ruling regarding the incident between Bezzecchi and Vinales until Sunday, citing Bezzecchi's "present health status" as the reason for the postponement.
Shortly before the event occurred, newcomer Acosta experienced a significant highside at Turn 6 while positioned in 11th place.
Tech3 update: "The Spanish rider experienced a somewhat harsh high-side incident. Fortunately, medical examinations revealed no fractures, although he is experiencing some shoulder discomfort. He will undergo another evaluation tomorrow morning before the competition."
