Heartbreak at Misano: Quartararo’s Fuel Woes Deny Season-Best Finish, Remains Optimistic for Future Races
Quartararo loses fifth place due to fuel shortage: “Still extremely pleased”
Fabio Quartararo almost achieves his top grand prix result of the season, falling short by just one corner.
Fabio Quartararo was just one corner away from securing his best result of the season, a top-six finish, during the Emilia Romagna MotoGP at Misano on Sunday.
However, the Monster Yamaha racer heartbreakingly lost his fifth-place position as he ran out of fuel while exiting the second-to-last corner.
Franco Morbidelli and Maverick Vinales both passed the French rider, who had lost power, as he coasted to the finish. Quartararo ended up in seventh place, matching his best result of the year on a Sunday.
"In the penultimate corner, I ran out of fuel. I did everything possible, but I’m still really pleased with the outcome of the race. This has been one of the best Grand Prix events we've experienced this year," stated Quartararo, who had been effectively keeping his former teammate Morbidelli behind him on the Ducati GP24.
"We're about to find out how we perform in the international races. Should we replicate this weekend's performance in Indonesia, it would mark significant progress for us. Recently, I've been feeling a lot more confident while riding. I believe we can be pleased with the efforts we've put in over the past few weeks."
Quartararo crossed the finish line 20.922 seconds behind the race winner, Enea Bastianini, but was still 12 seconds ahead of the next fastest Japanese motorcycle, which was ridden by Honda's Joan Mir and finished in eleventh place.
The Indonesian Grand Prix's free practice sessions will kick off on Friday. Alex Rins, who rides alongside Quartararo, aims to return to the circuit after pulling out of the Emilia Romagna round because of illness.
