Hamilton Eyes Austrian GP Podium with Optimism After Key Mercedes Upgrades
Lewis Hamilton aims for a podium finish at the Austrian Grand Prix, following adjustments to his vehicle.
"We've made modifications to the vehicle, so I'm optimistic about an improved performance in tomorrow's race."
Lewis Hamilton, who has clinched the F1 world championship seven times, disclosed that Mercedes implemented major modifications to their vehicle before the qualifying round at the Austrian Grand Prix.
Hamilton clinched the fifth position on the starting grid at the Red Bull Ring, narrowly missing out on Mercedes teammate George Russell in third by less than a tenth of a second
Mercedes secured a robust performance, maintaining its position as the third quickest team in Formula 1, trailing behind Red Bull and McLaren.
Hamilton felt satisfied with the improvements Mercedes had achieved before the qualifying round but was somewhat indifferent towards his last attempt in Q3.
"He mentioned, "We achieved some improvements in the car's equilibrium. Ideally, I would have commenced the weekend with this setup, but regardless, it was satisfactory."
"The final stretch of the lap turned out quite well. The mid-section, however, fell slightly short of expectations."
"On the whole, it was acceptable."
Hamilton believes that adjustments to his setup will enhance his previously "quite disappointing" race speed from the sprint, as he looks forward to potentially competing for a podium spot.
"He mentioned, "This morning, my pace during the race wasn't great." He continued, "We've made some adjustments to the vehicle, so I'm optimistic that my race performance will improve tomorrow."
"We've increased the angle of the rear wing. My goal is for us to put more pressure on the Ferraris and somehow chase after a spot on the podium."
"I need to overtake the Ferrari as quickly as I can."
