Future Shifts: Will Ducati’s Strategy Lure Back Eschewed Riders in 2027 MotoGP Regulations Overhaul?
Might former Ducati competitors consider a return for the 2027 rule changes?
Could riders who previously passed on opportunities decide to return with the introduction of new regulations in 2027?
Ducati has been cautioned that the real impact of parting ways with numerous young racers could become apparent in 2027.
In three years' time, the updated rules for MotoGP will take effect, offering other makers the prospect of starting periods of dominance in the sport.
Currently, Ducati is leading the way and aims to maintain their championship status next year as Marc Marquez teams up with Pecco Bagnaia in their official lineup.
Selecting Marquez for the prestigious red bike led to the departure of Enea Bastianini to Tech3 KTM, while Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi moved to Aprilia, and the Pramac team transitioned to Yamaha.
Next year, Marquez will stand as the grid's second most senior rider in terms of age.
"If you're a young rider, brace yourself for disappointment," commentator Simon Crafar remarked regarding Ducati's significant choice for their 2025 motorcycle.
"However, from another perspective, Ducati is aiming for the championship victory."
"This duo is the most formidable we've seen in years. They hold the highest odds of securing the victory, boasting the most powerful equipment."
"One might argue that they've displeased the passengers."
Bagnaia and Marquez have agreements in place that extend through the conclusion of 2026, prior to the implementation of the new rules.
Ducati might aim to attract Martin, Bezzecchi, or Bastianini back to their team in 2027, offering them the most competitive motorcycle in racing.
"When the moment arrives to find replacements for Marc or Pecco, if you possess the top motorcycle, riders are eager to pilot your equipment. You enter into negotiations again," Crafar mentioned.
"The world is harsh; that's the reality. I fully grasp why they've adopted a stringent approach, keeping their focus on the ultimate goal."
Ducati has been informed that if competing brands present remarkable initiatives for 2027 and future years, racers such as Martin and Bastianini may not be inclined to return to the company that let them go this year.
Crafar mentioned, "Should they fail to present the top-notch motorcycle by 2027 following the new regulations?
"It could be somewhat more complicated…"
Ducati has made a significant investment in bringing on board Marquez, who has secured the world championship title eight times.
This choice has resulted in the loss of a remarkable collection of skilled individuals.
Ducati has reaffirmed its dedication to nurturing emerging talents, even with Marquez on board, highlighting the recruitment of Fermin Aldeguer as evidence of their ongoing commitment.
However, the advancement of the Desmosedici must persist behind the scenes, irrespective of the high-profile racers that are signed on.
