Frustrated Perez Urges Red Bull Upgrades After Singapore ‘Nightmare’ as McLaren Dominates
Sergio Perez urges Red Bull for car improvements after "complete disaster"
Sergio Perez believes that Red Bull must introduce more upgrades to their vehicle to stay competitive with McLaren.
Sergio Perez was disappointed with his Red Bull car's performance after securing 10th place in the F1 Singapore Grand Prix.
The Mexican driver managed to secure only the 13th spot on the starting grid after being eliminated in the second qualifying session on Saturday, and struggled to advance during Sunday's race.
Perez got off to a strong start, which helped him break into the top 10. However, he could only secure one point, as he was unable to advance any further in the race.
“It’s disappointing that we couldn’t achieve the best outcome today,” Perez mentioned to Sky Sports F1. “It’s really unfortunate.”
"We need to focus on the upcoming races this season, as today was an absolute disaster. The balance was completely off, and I had a really tough time."
Perez believed that Red Bull delayed his pit stop for too long, anticipating a possible Safety Car that ultimately did not materialize.
“Looking back, we likely extended our efforts too much, and regrettably, that caused us to miss out,” he stated.
Perez thinks that Red Bull requires a “significant improvement” to compete with McLaren after falling further behind in both world championships.
Lando Norris secured a commanding win against Max Verstappen, reducing the Dutch driver's lead in the championship to 52 points.
In the race for the constructors' title, McLaren is currently ahead of Red Bull by 41 points, with six races left in the season.
Perez acknowledged that an upgrade is necessary, expressing optimism that the upcoming tracks will be more favorable for their performance. He is hopeful that they will have an improved setup soon.
Red Bull's team leader, Christian Horner, commented, “Max had a solid performance in the race today, and securing second place was the best outcome we could achieve.”
"Reflecting on our situation from a few weeks back, it's clear we've made notable strides. We still have nearly a month to focus and advance further before heading to Austin. Many late nights await us in Milton Keynes."
"Our team aimed to prevent a recurrence of last year's performance in Singapore. The extensive preparation for this race paid off, providing the drivers with an improved car and greater confidence in our development strategy."
"The McLaren is currently the standard to beat, and we need to make some progress to reach that level. However, we possess the talent, capability, and determination to achieve this. We remain competitive and have a few weeks ahead to prepare before our next opportunity."
