From Uncertainty to Dream Ride: Fabio di Giannantonio on the Verge of VR46 Factory Deal
Fabio di Giannantonio: 'A year ago, I would have sealed the deal with my blood; life can be unbelievable at times'
Fabio di Giannantonio emphasizes that his 'factory-spec' VR46 contract is still not confirmed, but acknowledges that it represents a dream scenario compared to his circumstances a year earlier.
Even though Ducati's team manager Davide Tardozzi informed French television that Fabio di Giannantonio and Franco Morbidelli are set to compete for VR46 in the upcoming season, the riders themselves stated that their contracts have not been finalized yet.
Tardozzi also announced that Diggia will be provided with a factory-spec GP25, identical to the ones used by Lenovo riders Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez.
On Friday evening at Silverstone, after receiving congratulations from the media for the deal, di Giannantonio, choosing his words thoughtfully, remarked:
"I've always mentioned that the aim for the upcoming year is to improve our setup, to elevate our performance, and to compete with the leading contenders. That's definitely our objective."
"I haven't come across any official statement yet. I've made my decision, but it's worth noting that things can always shift unexpectedly at the last moment."
"My team is putting the finishing touches on everything… I've already made my decision, but I believe we'll hold off for a few more days as there are still some details to iron out."
"We are making preparations for the future, but as of now, no progress has been made."
When questioned about his current circumstances compared to a year ago, when it appeared that di Giannantonio might have to exit MotoGP, and now it seems he has landed the top factory bike available, the Italian responded:
"Without a doubt, I would have eagerly agreed to this scenario last year, absolutely! Life can be astonishing at times. You are the sole architect of your future, and we managed to transform ours."
"I’m genuinely very proud of my progress and feel privileged that many manufacturers have shown significant interest in me. It indicates that I’m performing well, improving, and increasing my speed consistently."
"It's incredible. One of my career goals was to be sought after by factory teams and to compete with the top-tier bikes."
One of di Giannantonio's other choices for 2025 was the new project with Pramac Yamaha.
Presently with Pramac, Morbidelli remained reserved about his next move, even with Tardozzi’s announcement and his clear connection to VR46.
"There isn't a lot I can comment on right now, as it's not official yet," stated Morbidelli, who is already riding a GP24.
However, if the agreement to become part of VR46 goes through, Academy member Morbidelli stated it would be "a nice story… and I'd definitely be very pleased."
