From Uncertainty to Dream Deal: Fabio di Giannantonio’s Remarkable Turnaround with VR46 Prospect
Fabio di Giannantonio expresses that securing a 'factory-spec' VR46 agreement is still in progress, yet acknowledges it as an ideal scenario compared to the previous year, suggesting he would have eagerly agreed to it even if it required a blood pact, highlighting the unpredictability and marvels of life.
In an interview with French television, Ducati team leader Davide Tardozzi revealed that Fabio di Giannantonio and Franco Morbidelli are set to join VR46 for the upcoming season. However, the riders themselves have stated that their contracts are still being finalized.
Tardozzi has verified that Diggia will be equipped with a GP25 of factory specification, identical to the ones used by Lenovo team's Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez.
On Friday evening at Silverstone, following media congratulations on the agreement, di Giannantonio, choosing his words with care, stated:
"Indeed, I've consistently mentioned that our strategy for the forthcoming year involves enhancing our offerings, aiming to elevate our position and contend with the leading figures. That certainly remains our objective."
"As of now, there hasn't been an official statement released. While I've made my decision, it's important to remember that circumstances can shift unexpectedly, right up until the final moment."
"My team is in the process of wrapping things up… From my perspective, the choice has been made, however, I believe we should hold off for a few more days as we are lacking some specifics.
"Thus, our efforts are aimed towards future progress, yet currently, no tangible actions have been completed."
When questioned about how his current circumstances contrast with those from a year ago, during which it appeared that di Giannantonio was on the verge of exiting MotoGP, and now he seems to have landed the top factory bike available, the Italian responded:
"Absolutely, if you'd asked me a year ago, I would've eagerly agreed to be in this position, without a doubt! Yet, life has a way of surprising us. Ultimately, we hold the power to shape our own destiny, and that's exactly what we did."
"I'm genuinely filled with pride when I reflect on my progress, and I'm also deeply flattered by the significant attention I've received from numerous manufacturers. This shows that my efforts are paying off, I'm gaining valuable knowledge, and I'm steadily improving my speed."
"It's incredible. Achieving a position with the factory teams, where I could compete and ride alongside the best motorcycles, has always been a career aspiration of mine."
The fresh initiative by Pramac Yamaha was among the different choices di Giannantonio considered for 2025.
Pramac's current racer Morbidelli remained reserved about his next move, even in light of Tardozzi's announcement and his clear connection to VR46.
"Morbidelli, who is already riding a GP24, expressed, "I don't have much to say since it's not yet confirmed."
Should the agreement to team up with VR46 materialize, Academy participant Morbidelli acknowledged it would indeed be "a wonderful narrative… without a doubt, I'd be quite delighted."
