From Dreams Fulfilled to Toughest Trials: Enea Bastianini Reflects on Career Highs and His “Worst Season” Yet
Enea Bastianini Reflects on Achieving Racing Milestones Despite 2023 Being His Most Challenging Season
Enea Bastianini reflects on fulfilling his lifelong racing ambitions, yet labels 2023 as the most difficult year in his career.
Enea Bastianini had a tough 2023 MotoGP campaign, but his performance in 2024 has placed him fourth in the standings, trailing Francesco Bagnaia, Jorge Martin, and Marc Marquez.
At certain moments, Bastianini has matched the speed of the trio leading the race, yet his inadequate qualifying performances and early race difficulties have deprived him of a possible win.
In 2024, Bastianini has demonstrated resilience by overcoming a challenging phase, bouncing back from a severe injury he suffered early in 2023, and proving to be a formidable competitor once again.
In a conversation with Icon Magazine, Bastianini highlighted the importance of mental resilience, a trait abundantly present in his team-mate Bagnaia, stating, "Determination is key, as the mind always dictates our actions."
"Bagnaia demonstrated this during the previous year, which was the most challenging season of my career, experiencing three fractures within a span of five months."
Recovering from multiple injuries can be a challenging process. Progress seemed elusive; whenever there was a hint of success, it would quickly be overshadowed by a setback.
It instilled in me a philosophical outlook: when you're at your lowest, the only way is up, and you should always maintain your faith.
"On race weekends, I follow a strict schedule, ensuring I'm prepared by 11 AM for the beginning of Moto3, or considering which glove I had on during a successful practice session."
Bastianini, having clinched the 2020 Moto2 championship over competitors such as Marco Bezzecchi and Luca Marini, has fulfilled both of his lifelong ambitions as a professional motorcycle racer.
"Becoming a world champion was my initial goal," Bastianini started. "I realized that dream in Moto2, back in 2020.
"The pandemic made it a challenging time, yet the title will forever remain etched in my memory."
The second aspiration shared by numerous Italians involves competing in a race alongside Valentino Rossi.
Bastianini reflected: "I could never have envisioned sharing the starting line with him, yet it occurred on numerous occasions, and it was truly amazing!"
