Franco Morbidelli to Join VR46 Ducati with Crew Chief Matteo Flamigni in 2025
Franco Morbidelli's crew chief for the 2025 MotoGP season has been announced by VR46 team manager Pablo Nieto.
On Friday morning at the Austrian Grand Prix, it was officially announced that Franco Morbidelli would transfer from the Pramac team to the VR46 Ducati team for the 2025 season. Later that evening, the name of his crew chief was also revealed.
Morbidelli is set to join VR46 following a single season riding for Pramac on a Ducati. His year began poorly due to a winter crash that sidelined him for both of the preseason tests.
According to VR46 team manager Pablo Nieto, "Reflecting on the past, this winter was certainly challenging for him: he sustained injuries in Portimao while on the bike and missed the winter test," as he shared with MotoGP.com.
"In the end, you end up being short by about 3,000 kilometers, and in today's MotoGP, skipping the winter tests makes it nearly impossible to achieve anything."
In 2025, Morbidelli will still be riding a Desmosedici GP24, the same model he is using this season for Pramac. Nieto mentioned that maintaining this consistency is beneficial for Morbidelli.
"He will keep using the same bike as this year, which is crucial," Nieto stated, "and he will maintain his current level of effort. Therefore, I believe we can achieve great results."
Nieto mentioned that Morbidelli's latest performance has given him confidence regarding the team's new recruit.
Following Friday’s practice session at the Austrian Grand Prix, Nieto expressed his satisfaction with the rider's performance. “He’s doing an excellent job and is beginning to develop a strong connection with the bike,” Nieto remarked. “Today, we saw him consistently contend for a top-three position, which is crucial.”
Nieto has officially announced that Morbidelli will take over the team that is currently collaborating with Marco Bezzecchi.
Nieto mentioned that he, along with Matteo Flamigni and the entire team currently collaborating with Bezzecchi, will be joining them.
