Francesco Bagnaia Triumphs in Austrian MotoGP with Valentino Rossi’s Guidance: A VR46 Academy Success Story
Francesco Bagnaia shares Valentino Rossi's guidance ahead of the Austrian MotoGP, stating, "His perspective is incredibly valuable to me."
Francesco Bagnaia clinched a win at the Austrian MotoGP, marking his third time this season to achieve both a Sprint and Grand Prix triumph.
Since nearly the beginning of the VR46 Rider Academy, Bagnaia has developed his skills as a racer with guidance from the nine-time World Champion Valentino Rossi. Prior to the race in Austria, his mentor gave him some clear advice.
In the post-race press conference, Bagnaia shared that Rossi had told him before the race to simply try to replicate his impressive performance from the Sprint the previous day.
Bagnaia elaborated and provided more details about the camaraderie that is shared among the members of the VR46 Academy.
"Following the race, he was extremely pleased, especially since Celestino Vietti had just secured his first win of the year, overcoming a tough period. We're really happy for him. I believe Bezzecchi also performed well in the race. Although Franky didn't have his best race, he made a significant comeback. Overall, it’s been a highly successful weekend for the Academy."
It’s clear that Bagnaia holds Rossi's opinion in high regard and actively looks for his advice during race weekends, even if Rossi isn’t physically at the track.
"It's crucial to have Vale around, but I frequently communicate with him even when he's absent," he mentioned. "We exchange messages often, and his perspective is extremely valuable to me. Although when he's present, he needs to concentrate more on his team, we still talked last night and on Friday. His insights are essential to me."
Discussing his performance in Austria more broadly, Bagnaia expressed his contentment with his pace and his race management.
"Yesterday's race was excellent, partly due to Jorge's penalty," he stated. "However, today our pace was outstanding. The speed we achieved was remarkable."
"I aimed to be slightly quicker than Jorge with each lap to create a buffer for the final stretch of the race. I also had to keep an eye on the rear tire, which was wobbling on the straightaways. Having that gap was crucial to handle the situation effectively."
