Francesco Bagnaia Reflects on Silverstone Struggles: ‘I Want to Know What I Did Wrong
Francesco Bagnaia: "I need to understand my mistakes…"
Francesco Bagnaia puzzled after facing difficulties in the closing laps at Silverstone.
Francesco Bagnaia lost his lead and dropped out of the race after being in front for over half of the British MotoGP.
Initially, Bagnaia was passed by Jorge Martin. Following that, he left enough space for his teammate, Enea Bastianini, to maneuver through and ultimately secure the victory.
Feeling let down by not being in contention for victory until the race's conclusion, Bagnaia expressed: "The primary task I have for this afternoon and the coming days is to thoroughly examine all the data. I want to understand every detail because I need to identify any mistakes I made."
"I initially believed I was handling the pace and tyre management effectively, but when Jorge passed me, I realized he was performing better, and I began to face significant difficulties."
"I lost my position to Enea when he passed me. I decided to ease off and focus on completing the race because, today, that was more crucial than attempting to secure a higher spot."
"They simply outpaced me. I gave it my all, but my best effort only secured me third place."
"This isn't the first time I've experienced this. Whenever I'm not completely satisfied with the front tire, like today when we picked the medium one, I end up wearing out the rear tire more because I can't push the front tire to turn harder."
Achieving more was out of the question. I am pleased with the outcome, although it’s unfortunate that I had an accident yesterday.
Although Bagnaia didn't secure the race victory he had hoped for, which would have made him the first Ducati rider to win five consecutive grand prix races, the current world champion still achieved his 43rd podium finish.
Bagnaia, like many riders who have donned Ducati's colors, was thrilled to reach this milestone.
"Having 43 podium finishes is definitely impressive. The total is becoming quite substantial," remarked Bagnaia.
Ducati reached another significant achievement by securing all podium spots at Silverstone for the seventh consecutive time, setting a new MotoGP record.
Bagnaia commented: "When you combine top riders with top-performing bikes, such dominance is possible."
"There are eight of us riding bikes capable of winning, and among these eight, five or six are truly exceptional riders."
"I believe that having these kinds of outcomes is fairly typical. We consistently review the information, and it drives us to make enhancements."
"Ducati's success is impressive, but our continuous improvements have played a key role in achieving it."
