Francesco Bagnaia secured the top starting position for the MotoGP Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, wearing a helmet designed to honor an Italian charity dedicated to autism.
In keeping with the custom for Italian racers during a race weekend at Misano, Bagnaia revealed a unique helmet design on Saturday, featuring images of tortellini pieces.
Ducati states that it is an homage to Tortellante, an Italian non-profit that aids young individuals with autism.
The program, established in 2016, gathers young individuals with autism for workshops where they create pasta from scratch.
The project's concept aims to offer a therapeutic activity for youth diagnosed with autism, aiding their transition into adulthood and offering support to their families.
The initiative aims to increase awareness about autism and encourage greater community involvement.
Bagnaia has dedicated his bike to the late Luca Salvadori, who tragically passed away in a road racing accident in Germany last weekend.
The current two-time world champion led the Friday practice sessions at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and maintained that performance during Saturday morning's qualifying rounds.
Bagnaia set a new lap record of 1 minute and 30.031 seconds, outpacing current standings leader Jorge Martin by 0.214 seconds.
Following the session, the Ducati motorcyclist mentioned that the lower temperatures in Q2 made it challenging to exert full effort.
"Yesterday, I mentioned that the temperature might pose a challenge, and that turned out to be true, as it was hard to push as we intended on the left turns," he stated in parc ferme.
"But I'm thrilled, as securing pole position is crucial and it gives us the best chance to aim for a victory this afternoon."
In the parc fermé, Martin mentioned that it would be "challenging to defeat Pecco" in the sprint race this afternoon.
Only seven points separate the two competitors as they head into the Emilia Romagna GP sprint race.
