Francesco Bagnaia Accuses Alex Marquez of Intentional Contact in Controversial Aragon MotoGP Clash
Francesco Bagnaia accuses Alex Marquez of attempting to initiate contact during their encounter at the Aragon MotoGP, suggesting it was impossible for Marquez not to have seen him.
Defending MotoGP titleholder Francesco Bagnaia has refuted Alex Marquez's justification that he "didn't notice him" during their collision at Aragon, involving the Gresini team member.
The Italian mentioned that evidence demonstrates Marquez's throttle was still engaged at the time of the collision, which happened as they were competing for the third position towards the end of the grand prix. He implied that the Spaniard attempted to initiate contact.
"Bagnaia expressed to MotoGP.com that his perspective aligns with the common consensus among those who follow racing closely, as the events in question are quite obvious."
"He had taken a wider path, while I was ahead with significantly greater velocity. I approached the curve without tightening my trajectory, aware of his presence. Yet, my pace was sufficient to pass him effortlessly."
"Right when I turned into corner 13, I could hear his engine revving up. He was accelerating, aiming to close the gap."
"I was interested in examining the data… He continued with 60 percent, leaving 40 percent of the throttle open until the moment of the crash. This behavior is quite unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
Upon hearing that Alex Marquez claimed he was unable to spot Bagnaia, the official Ducati racer replied:
I believe there's no way he could have missed seeing me. I was directly in his path before I decided to change course.
The FIM Stewards decided not to take any additional measures, concluding that 'no single rider was… chiefly to blame for the occurrence'.
An injured Bagnaia, now trailing Jorge Martin by 23 points in the championship standings, has a mere five days to recuperate before the Friday practice session at Misano, his home circuit.
"Frankly, it's not great. My neck is really hurting," he commented on his state. "However, it could be a lot worse, so I'm alright with it.
