Fireworks Ahead: Ducati Braces for Marquez-Bagnaia Rivalry in 2025 MotoGP Season
Gigi Dall’Igna mentioned that managing Marc Marquez will be challenging.
"In a leading team, you desire a top performer who also avoids causing issues."
Gigi Dall’Igna and the leadership at Ducati have been cautioned regarding the challenging job of keeping peace within the MotoGP team for the upcoming season.
The choice of Marc Marquez as the factory teammate for Pecco Bagnaia in 2025 ensures that Ducati will have an exceptionally skilled and highly regarded pair of riders.
Nonetheless, this situation introduces new concerns regarding how the manufacturer will handle having two championship-winning riders who could become each other’s primary competitors.
Sylvain Guintoli mentioned to TNT Sports that the Ducati management will face challenges.
"They need to handle the scenario appropriately. In an elite team, you desire an exceptional individual who won't cause any issues."
"Teams typically follow this approach because it is effective."
"When you have two strong personalities both on and off the track, things are bound to get intense. Expect sparks to fly."
"It will be fascinating to grasp the inner workings. Ducati went to great lengths to bring Marquez onto their factory team."
Marquez made news in a surprising turn of events this past weekend during his debut at World Ducati Week. His maneuver to overtake Nicolo Bulega at the final corner of the Race of Champions led to Bulega crashing into the gravel.
Originally, Jorge Martin seemed to be the top candidate for the 2025 factory Ducati seat. However, Marquez firmly stated that transferring to Pramac, despite their ability to provide a factory bike, was "not an option".
Subsequently, Martin was passed over in favor of Marquez, sparking a departure of skilled individuals from Ducati.
Pramac's Martin and VR46's Marco Bezzecchi will join Aprilia next year, while Enea Bastianini is set to transfer to Tech3 KTM. Additionally, the Pramac team is transitioning to a Yamaha initiative.
However, Ducati's top priority remains Marquez.
Neil Hodgson from TNT Sports commented on the choice of Marquez, stating, "There are both pros and cons."
"They've poured significant funds into Martin, so it's expected that he would secure the position at the factory."
“But the truth is, it’s an exceptional scenario involving an eight-time champion, the remarkable Marquez.
"Marc has never lost to a fellow team member, and he's competed alongside some excellent riders, including Pedrosa and Lorenzo. He's outperformed them all."
"He is extremely self-assured and truly indifferent about who his partner might be."
"He simply desires the same equipment. It will be a spectacular show, certainly exciting to witness."
A potential issue arises for Ducati if Bagnaia and Marquez compete for the 2025 championship, as the team will need to determine how to handle their priorities.
Guintoli expressed doubt that anyone would truly get what they want.
"There will be fluctuations; there will be challenges, and they will take gambles to outdo one another."
Hodgson mentioned that the two could jeopardize their chances at the championship, allowing someone else to take advantage of their mistakes. He noted that this has happened in the past.
The upcoming weekend at Silverstone will mark the continuation of this season's British MotoGP.
Bagnaia leads the rankings, holding a 10-point advantage over Martin and a 56-point lead over Marquez.
