Fermin Aldeguer Poised for Gresini Ducati Move in 2025: The Industry’s Open Secret
The next significant development in the MotoGP rider market is an open secret: Fermin Aldeguer's move for the 2025 season is practically confirmed, even though no official announcement has been made yet.
Fermin Aldeguer has held the position of a 2025 Ducati MotoGP rider for the longest period, but the official announcement of the team he will represent remains undisclosed.
Aldeguer, who achieved victory in the final four Moto2 Grands Prix consecutively last year, inked a deal with Ducati prior to the commencement of this season, with the announcement being made in February.
Since then, Aldeguer, who was considered the frontrunner for the 2024 Moto2 preseason title, has faced difficulties this year. He has managed to secure only two victories and is positioned fifth in the championship rankings, trailing the leader Sergio Garcia by 50 points. Garcia, who will continue with the MT Helmets MSI team in Moto2 next season, leads the standings. Aldeguer's most challenging race weekend occurred in Austria, where he started in 17th place and ended up finishing 20th.
Despite the lack of an official statement, Franco Morbidelli’s move to the VR46 Ducati team implies that Aldeguer’s future team has been determined.
With Morbidelli joining VR46 and teaming up with Fabio Di Giannantonio, the factory Ducati team now has Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez. Meanwhile, the Pramac team is leaving Ducati to collaborate with Yamaha. This leaves only the Gresini team, alongside Alex Marquez, as an option for Aldeguer.
Having inked his contract half a year back, it appears that only the official announcement is pending.
Aldeguer commented that his future in MotoGP is an open secret.
"I'm thrilled about this. I can't reveal much at the moment, but perhaps soon. I'm very pleased to be part of the Gresini team and to ride the 2024 Ducati. We'll discuss more next year."
The Gresini team boasts a rich history, marked by notable achievements in recent times. Their successes include race victories by Enea Bastianini in 2022 and Fabio Di Giannantonio in the previous year.
Aldeguer mentioned that a lot of riders join this team due to its excellent technical capabilities. However, he emphasized that his current attention is on this year, as it holds significant importance.
