Fermin Aldeguer Faces Added Pressure as He Prepares to Replace Marc Marquez at Gresini for 2025 MotoGP Debut
Gresini's new rider, stepping in for Marc Marquez, faces the "pressure" of removing the #93 plate.
“I need to enter the garage and remove the number."
Fermin Aldeguer mentioned feeling "increased pressure" ahead of his 2025 MotoGP debut with Gresini, as he is set to take over from Marc Marquez.
The leading Moto2 rider secured a contract with Ducati's factory team before the 2024 season began, set to take effect in 2025. However, it was only confirmed earlier this week that he would be competing for Gresini.
He is set to replace Marquez at the Italian team as he advances to join the factory Ducati team.
However, this reality has caused Aldeguer to feel a certain amount of pressure as he prepares for his first appearance.
"With the bike and the team, I can remain completely calm now," he stated.
"It's time to seriously compete in the Moto2 season. I'm thrilled to reveal that I'll be racing with the Gresini team next year."
"I want to express my gratitude to the entire team and Ducati Corse for their assistance. I'm prepared."
"I need to enter the garage during the Valencia test and remove the number 93."
"This situation is more stressful due to the fact that Marquez has won the world championship eight times."
“We need to remain composed and take things one step at a time. I’m a newcomer, not someone who has won the world championship eight times. We must focus on our tasks.”
Aldeguer, who was seen as the top contender for the Moto2 championship following his four consecutive victories at the end of 2023, has faced a challenging season.
The Speed Up racer is positioned fifth in the rankings as they head into this weekend's Aragon Grand Prix, trailing championship leader Sergio Garcia by 50 points.
There are claims that uncertainty regarding his future in MotoGP has impacted his performance this year, although he disagrees with this notion.
"When I'm riding, I don't focus on the upcoming year," he remarked.
"It's disheartening for me when I hear people saying things like, 'You won't have a ride in MotoGP next year, you don't have a team for next year.'"
"I put in effort every single day to compete for the championship this year and to make my way to MotoGP in top form."
