Fabio Quartararo Targets Season-Best Finish After ‘Great Sprint’ in Emilia Romagna MotoGP
Fabio Quartararo: "Excellent Sprint," Aims for Best Finish of the Season in Top Six
"It’s encouraging to see the front-runners within reachable distance. I feel positive about the progress we’re making."
Fabio Quartararo expressed his joy and praised the race as "excellent" after finishing in the middle of a top 14 dominated by European motorcycles in the Emilia Romagna MotoGP Sprint.
The Monster Yamaha racer quickly advanced from ninth place on the starting grid, overtook VR46 Ducati competitor Marco Bezzecchi after an intense duel, and then focused on challenging the factory KTM rider Brad Binder in the final laps.
Quartararo was unable to complete the maneuver, but the incident highlighted the specific areas where the M1 requires enhancement.
Quartararo, reflecting on the location of his 2021 championship victory, expressed his enjoyment of the Sprint race, saying, “I had a fantastic time on the bike today.”
"We were unable to attempt to pass Brad. Unfortunately, we lack significant engine power, particularly during the race."
"The primary factor holding us back in qualifying is a lack of grip, and during the race itself, we lack the necessary power to be faster and compete effectively."
"We need to work on that and I hope we can fix it quickly. On the bright side, I'm having fun riding the bike and it's encouraging to see that the leaders aren't too far ahead."
“I believe that the progress we're achieving is excellent.”
The French rider concluded the race 8.405 seconds behind Ducati's Francesco Bagnaia, who won the race. This marks an improvement from two weeks ago during the San Marino Sprint at the same circuit, where he was 11.015 seconds behind the winner.
The highest-ranking non-European motorcycle after that was Luca Marini's Honda, which finished in 15th place.
"We used the same motorcycle as we did yesterday, but we've been here at this track for a month now, including the test sessions," Quartararo said. "Each time, we gather more and more data."
“We usually have two bicycles available, but this weekend we only have one!”
"Ducati gathers more information in a single weekend than we manage to collect over three or four races. We need to observe the outcome when we compete in a Grand Prix like the one in Indonesia, where we don't have any prior data. We'll see if we can achieve good speeds right from the start."
Prior to traveling to Mandalika next weekend, Quartararo is striving to achieve his best performance of the season by finishing in the top six at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix this Sunday.
"Our goal is to be in the top six. It's challenging, but I believe we have the capability to achieve it," he stated.
Alex Rins, a member of the team, pulled out of the event on Saturday morning because he was unwell.
