Fabio Di Giannantonio Signs Factory Contract with VR46; Set to Ride Ducati GP25 in 2025 MotoGP Season
Announcement: Fabio di Giannantonio inks a new deal with VR46
Fabio di Giannantonio is set to compete on a Ducati GP25 in the upcoming season
Fabio Di Giannantonio is set to continue with the VR46 Racing Team for the 2025 MotoGP season, with an elevation to the position of a factory-contracted rider.
Di Giannantonio ensured his place in MotoGP last year by winning the Qatar Grand Prix in the second-to-last race of the season. In 2025 and 2026, he is set to become the third rider signed by the Bologna brand to compete on a factory-spec Desmosedici, with only three of these bikes available starting next year.
During the past weekend at the British Grand Prix, VR46 and Ducati announced that Valentino Rossi's Italian team, which he owns and has won nine world championships with, will become the official satellite team for the Borgo Panigale factory. This change will occur as Pramac, the current satellite team, shifts to become the official satellite team for Yamaha at the end of 2024.
Despite Ducati Lenovo Team manager Davide Tardozzi informing French broadcaster Canal+ at Silverstone that VR46 will provide one factory-spec Desmosedici for Di Giannantonio and a year-old model for Franco Morbidelli, official confirmation of Di Giannantonio’s status for 2025 has only just been released.
"Just nine months ago, I was without a bike and my dream seemed out of reach. Today, I’ve signed a contract with two of the biggest names in MotoGP. It’s unbelievable," Di Giannantonio remarked as he announced his deal for the upcoming two seasons.
“I’m thrilled to extend this incredible adventure with the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team and Ducati Corse for the upcoming two seasons. My arrival was somewhat unexpected, but I quickly felt at ease, and our collaboration is thriving.”
Di Giannantonio stated that the improved equipment has elevated his goals. “I'll be racing for two years with the official Ducati team, so we should and must strive for significant achievements. This is a major endeavor, and I am fully committed, allowing us to aim for the highest spot on the podium.”
The VR46 Racing Team's Director, Alessio Salucci, has clarified that Fabio Di Giannantonio's contract is held with Ducati and not with the team itself. Salucci stated, "We can confirm that, due to the contract signed directly with Ducati's Borgo Panigale Factory, Fabio will be representing our team in neon yellow for the upcoming two seasons."
"I'm thrilled with his performance. He joined us just in time, is putting in tremendous effort, consistently keeps up with the top performers, and truly earned this outcome."
Luigi Dall’Igna, the General Manager of Ducati Corse, shared his pleasure in keeping Di Giannantonio with the team.
"We're pleased to announce that Fabio Di Giannantonio will be riding for Ducati over the next two years. Diggia has consistently demonstrated strong belief in our vision, and his commitment and skill have allowed him to make continuous progress in MotoGP."
While Di Giannantonio's position has been officially secured, the other announcement made by Tardozzi at Silverstone—that Franco Morbidelli will join the VR46 team and ride a Desmosedici GP24 in 2025—has yet to receive formal confirmation.
