Fabio Di Giannantonio Secures Future with VR46, Set to Ride Ducati GP25 in 2025 MotoGP Season
Announcement: VR46 Secures Fabio di Giannantonio with a Renewed Agreement
Fabio di Giannantonio is set to compete on a Ducati GP25 in the upcoming season
Fabio Di Giannantonio will continue his tenure with the VR46 Racing Team for the 2025 MotoGP season, stepping up to become a factory-contracted rider.
In 2025 and 2026, Di Giannantonio, who solidified his position in MotoGP by clinching victory at the Qatar Grand Prix in the second-to-last race of the previous season, is set to join the ranks as the third racer for the Bologna-based team, piloting one of the mere three factory-spec Desmosedici motorcycles available from the upcoming year.
During the recent British Grand Prix weekend, it was announced that VR46, the team owned by the nine-time World Champion Valentino Rossi, will become the new official satellite team for Ducati. This change means that VR46 will be stepping into the position currently held by Pramac, which is set to transition into being Yamaha's official satellite team by the end of 2024.
Davide Tardozzi, the team manager for Ducati Lenovo, initially disclosed to the French TV channel Canal+ during the Silverstone event that VR46 would be provided with a current model Desmosedici for Di Giannantonio and a model from the previous year for Franco Morbidelli. It is only recently that there has been an official announcement confirming Di Giannantonio’s position for the 2025 season.
"Nine months ago, I was left without a bike to pursue my passion, and now, I'm in disbelief as I ink a deal with two of the leading organizations in MotoGP for the coming two years," expressed Di Giannantonio upon finalizing his contract.
"I'm thrilled to be extending my journey with the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team and Ducati Corse for an additional two seasons. My arrival here seemed almost accidental, but right away, I felt like I belonged, and together with the team, we're achieving great things."
Di Giannantonio stated that the improvement in equipment has heightened his goals. "For two years, I'll be racing with Ducati's official team — it's essential that we set our sights high for significant achievements. It's a substantial undertaking in which I'm fully engaged, and we're targeting the highest position on the podium.
Alessio Salucci, the Team Director for VR46 Racing Team, has verified that Fabio Di Giannantonio's contract is held with Ducati directly, not with the racing team itself. "Fabio will be donning our neon yellow colors for the forthcoming two seasons, courtesy of his direct contract with the Borgo Panigale Factory," Salucci stated.
"I'm unable to conceal my contentment; his arrival was just in the nick of time. He's been putting in a tremendous effort, consistently matching pace with the top performers, and he's truly earned this outcome."
Luigi Dall’Igna, the General Manager of Ducati Corse, shared his pleasure in keeping Di Giannantonio on board.
"We are delighted to welcome Fabio Di Giannantonio to our Ducati team for the upcoming two seasons. Diggia has consistently demonstrated a strong belief in our initiative, and his commitment and skills have facilitated his progressive development in MotoGP."
While Di Giannantonio's position has been officially confirmed, the news shared by Tardozzi at Silverstone about Franco Morbidelli joining the VR46 team on a Desmosedici GP24 in 2025 is yet to receive formal confirmation.
