Fabio di Giannantonio bore a resemblance to Valentino Rossi at Silverstone, not just due to his traditional livery but also occasionally through his riding technique.
The VR46 racer secured fifth place in the British MotoGP, wrapping up a weekend during which Rossi’s squad announced that they will soon be a factory-supported satellite team for Ducati.
Each team showcased a traditional design at Silverstone on Sunday, with the VR46 Ducati bikes and their riders adorned in attire reminiscent of Rossi during his prime.
"It was an extraordinary moment. When I first laid eyes on the bike before the weekend, I thought it was incredible," Di Giannantonio told reporters, including those from Crash.net, in the paddock afterwards.
"I finally witnessed it in person, and it was absolutely amazing."
"Having all the equipment is simply amazing."
“Personally, I was hoping for a unique helmet as well, specifically for Vale.
"This year, they provided me with an incredible opportunity. I want to express my gratitude to Vale and the team. Wearing this helmet and these colors filled me with pride."
“I made every effort and added all the finishing touches! We performed well.”
Certain commentators compared Di Giannantonio's fluid riding at Silverstone to that of Rossi.
He responded: “Wow, you’re giving me chills!"
“Certainly, I have fewer victories and places on the podium. I am deeply honored that someone mentioned this.
"I put in my maximum effort for both my teammates and the colors we represented."
I'm honored that someone made this statement about my ethnicity. Thank you.
In the upcoming year, the VR46 team will replace Pramac as the Ducati satellite team benefiting from factory support.
This will involve the deployment of a single GP25.
Di Giannantonio is anticipated to receive it, though he declined to verify this after the race on Sunday.
Di Giannantonio clarifies Marquez's move
Di Giannantonio and Gresini's racer Alex Marquez were fiercely competing for the sixth position.
Di Giannantonio seemed to signal by tapping the back of his seat, suggesting that Marquez should trail behind.
The VR46 rider stated: "He was significantly slower. My goal was to pass him quickly in order to catch up to the leading group."
"I passed him once, then he passed me. We ended up losing nearly two seconds during the battle."
"It was unfortunate because I had the speed to keep up with Marc at the front, and possibly with Aleix and Pecco as well."
"It was an invitation to work together and avoid making foolish decisions."
Marc Marquez, consistently the quickest on the Ducati GP23, implied that the factory-spec motorcycles gain a greater advantage from fresh tires.
Di Giannantonio, who has consistently been the second-best GP23 rider for most of this season, concurred.
"It's been the same way throughout the entire year," he remarked.
"This bicycle tends to surge at the end of turns, making it hard to take sharp lines."
"The new tire has made things even more difficult for us. The GP24, on the other hand, benefits from the new tire."
"This is the distinction between the GP23 and the GP24."
