Experts Urge China’s Strong Mandate for Coal Phase-Out by 2045: The Imperative Transition to Clean Energy and Structural Reforms
Experts assert that China needs a robust directive to stop using coal by 2045 and promote a shift towards clean energy. Climate specialist Simon Sharpe suggests that this directive would necessitate significant modifications to the nation's electricity infrastructure and economic framework.
Sharpe expressed last week to the South China Morning Post that China has the potential to eliminate coal and transition to a nearly zero-emission power system by the mid-2040s.
"Existing policies require transformation," stated Sharpe.
