Esteban Ocon Eyes New Horizons: Confident on Securing 2025 F1 Seat Amid Advanced Negotiations
Esteban Ocon, currently without a team, shares updates on his potential opportunities and main focus for securing a drive in 2025.
He expressed optimism, stating, "I'm hopeful for a resolution and announcement in the near future."
Esteban Ocon is looking forward to revealing his Formula 1 plans for 2025 shortly, though he refrained from specifying his next team.
Alpine has officially announced that Ocon will be leaving the team at the conclusion of this year, coinciding with the expiration of his contract.
He disclosed that discussions about his future plans are significantly progressing ahead of the F1 Austrian Grand Prix this weekend.
"Currently, we're engaged in profound discussions," Ocon stated.
"Talks are progressing positively, and currently, I feel optimistic about what lies ahead, anticipating a resolution and forthcoming announcement."
"Indeed, I feel sure of myself, yet as you mentioned, it isn't certain until the agreement is finalized…"
Williams, Haas, Red Bull, and Sauber are the teams currently looking to fill a spot for their 2025 Formula 1 driver roster.
In 2018, Ocon experienced losing a seat in Formula 1 racing, specifically with the Force India team.
"He admitted his assurance was also high at the close of 2018, though due to various factors, things did not unfold as planned," he stated.
"We possess the knowledge from those experiences."
Ocon maintains that his departure from Force India has led him to adopt a more proactive approach following Alpine's decision not to extend his contract through 2025.
"Absolutely, and I certainly wouldn't want to experience that again at any price," he stated.
"As I mentioned, things are progressing positively at the moment, with many meaningful conversations taking place, and we're hopeful that it will all be resolved shortly.
"Indeed, a variety of choices exist, but I prefer not to disclose a preference at this moment."
Ocon becomes part of a group including Carlos Sainz, Guanyu Zhou, Daniel Ricciardo, and Valtteri Bottas, whose future in Formula 1 remains unclear.
Everyone is vying for the few available spots, operating under the belief that Sainz, who triumphed in a Grand Prix both last year and again this season, has the first choice among them.
Ocon commented, expressing his belief that the market has always been complex and unpredictable.
"There have always been factors involved, not just related to performance, but a variety of issues at play."
"I wouldn't say it's the topic I enjoy discussing the most. My preference leans more towards actual racing on the track, but it's significant for us."
"The subject of driver movements in Formula 1 has always been quite absurd."
"Delving into the perspectives of influential individuals on a variety of topics proves to be fascinating. However, ultimately, the emphasis largely remains on performance. This reality, though not exclusive, keeps my optimism alive."
During this year's Monaco Grand Prix, a collision occurred between Ocon and his fellow team member, Pierre Gasly, much to the dismay of their team management.
Not long afterward, Alpine announced they would not renew Ocon's expiring agreement. Gasly has secured a fresh contract with the team.
Flavio Briatore has joined Alpine in a consultative role, a team that initially faced challenges this season but managed to secure ninth and tenth places in last weekend's Barcelona race.
