Espargaro and Vinales Gear Up for Silverstone: Aiming to Repeat Past Glories and Break New Ground
Aleix Espargaro: "We are striving to achieve the same outcome as we did in 2023" | Vinales: "I've consistently felt competitive at Silverstone"
Aleix Espargaro: "The RS-GP performs exceptionally well at Silverstone, and so do I. Our goal is to replicate our 2023 performance."
Following an absence from the Dutch Grand Prix and the Sachsenring event because of a hand injury, Aleix Espargaro begins the last half-season of his MotoGP career with the goal of replicating his remarkable win at Silverstone from the previous year.
Espargaro achieved what many consider the greatest victory of his career by climbing from sixth place on the starting grid to surpass the reigning champion, Francesco Bagnaia, for the win during the final lap of the previous year’s British Grand Prix.
Silverstone holds special memories for Espargaro and Aprilia, as it was the site of the RS-GP's first podium finish in 2021. He is now coming back for what seems to be his last race at this iconic circuit.
Espargaro expressed his fondness for the track, highlighting not just last year's win, but also the memorable moment in 2021 when he secured Aprilia's first podium since he joined the team.
"Silverstone is a great match for both the RS-GP and myself, and the goal is to replicate our performance from 2023."
"Aprilias consistently led the pack last year. We're optimistic about our performance this year as well; the team in Noale has spent the summer break enhancing the bike."
Fellow racer Maverick Viñales also boasts an impressive history at Silverstone, highlighted by his inaugural MotoGP win while riding for Suzuki back in 2016.
Vinales has secured two podium finishes with Aprilia, achieving third place in last year's sprint race and second place in the 2022 Grand Prix.
"Racing at Silverstone has always sparked my competitive spirit; it's thrilling to compete on such a historic track," Vinales remarked. "I feel rejuvenated after the summer break, having kept up with my training, and I'm prepared to take on the second half of the season."
Vinales expressed his approval of Trackhouse rider Raul Fernandez being upgraded to a 2024 model bike starting this weekend.
“We aim to make the most of the bikes' capabilities. Raúl is set to experience the RS-GP24 for the first time. Having four 2024 bikes on the track will be fantastic and will provide us with a wealth of valuable data,” Vinales stated.
