Enea Bastianini’s Late-Night Strategy Fuels Emilia Romagna MotoGP Triumph at Misano
Enea Bastianini discloses how a late night contributed to his triumph at Misano.
Bastianini shares the key to his improved performance at the Emilia Romagna MotoGP.
Enea Bastianini mentioned that he was in his garage at 10 p.m., analyzing data to keep up with the frontrunners in the MotoGP Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
Over the course of Friday and Saturday at Misano, Bastianini appeared poised to contend for the last podium position, while his teammate Francesco Bagnaia and Pramac’s Jorge Martin showcased a distinct edge.
After placing third in the sprint, Bastianini immediately contested for the win in Sunday's race and achieved Ducati's 100th grand prix triumph following a contentious final lap pass on Martin.
"It was definitely a memorable Sunday," remarked Bastianini.
“Yesterday, I put in a great deal of effort. By 10pm, I was in my office reviewing my information to ensure I could perform well today.
"Ultimately, during this morning's warm-up, I felt good about my performance. This gave me confidence for the race as well."
"Throughout the race, Jorge maintained a strong pace and showcased excellent riding skills. On the final lap, I noticed an opening at Turn 4 and immediately seized the opportunity to move inside."
"He frequently blocked my path, causing me to brake harder than I anticipated. Despite this, I managed to overtake him and secure the win."
Bastianini justified his maneuver past Martin, asserting that while it was aggressive, it adhered to the regulations. The officials did not look into the matter further.
The Italian racer is renowned for his skill in conserving his tires and performing well in the latter stages of races. However, he believes that the speed at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix did not permit him to utilize this strength.
He mentioned that conserving the tyres was challenging since they had been pushing hard from the very beginning to the end of the race.
"The speed during the race was amazing. Jorge really pushed hard when he was leading. Typically, in a battle for the win, you can give a little extra effort in the final lap, and that's what I tried to do."
He mentioned that the windier conditions on Sunday gave him an advantage, enabling him to navigate Misano's faster corners more swiftly.
He mentioned that in 2022 he also attempted to secure a victory, but at the same corner where he made a move on Jorge, he made an error and went off track, losing his opportunity to win the race.
"There was a significant gamble involved in making an inside move on the final lap. Misano provides me with an extra edge."
"I'm not sure if it's the environment, the family support, or just my fondness for this track, but we practice here frequently."
"Today, the wind provided some assistance, particularly in the quicker turns such as Turns 11 and 12, making them easier to navigate compared to the sprint."
