Enea Bastianini Faces Uphill Battle in 2024 MotoGP Season After Turbulent Year with Ducati
The 2024 MotoGP season presents challenges for Enea Bastianini following a difficult 2023 marred by injury.
Enea Bastianini faces a challenging 2024 MotoGP season, already embroiled in speculation regarding his career future after a 2023 season derailed by injuries.
Enea Bastianini’s tenure with the official Ducati MotoGP squad is set to end after this season, with the Italian rider moving to KTM.
Bastianini's partnership with the factory team has faced challenges since he became a member last year. A fractured shoulder blade during his debut race for the team derailed his initial season, causing repercussions that extended into 2024.
"2023 has been a challenging year for me mentally," Bastianini revealed to TNT Sports ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix.
"Because, particularly after the second incident, I felt shattered. It wasn't just about losing points, which felt like fighting in vain, but mentally, it was incredibly challenging."
In 2023, Bastianini made a comeback by securing a victory in Malaysia, yet this achievement did not prevent his prospects from being highly scrutinized as he headed into 2024.
"Bastianini mentioned that, at the start of the year, he believed there were no other options in his mind."
"I was determined to keep my position, to stay with the Ducati team. That was my goal, my focus; I didn't consider other teams or anything else.
"From the initial race leading up to Mugello, it's been quite challenging, as we've frequently contemplated it and I've been faced with numerous inquiries on the matter from various reporters."
"In essence, experiencing increased pressure is common. However, post-Mugello, it dawned on me that I needed to broaden my perspective and explore alternative paths to discern the optimal choice for myself."
Ultimately, Bastianini decided on joining the Tech3 team under the KTM banner.
"In conclusion, I opted for KTM," the Italian remarked, "and I'm truly pleased. Staying concentrated on this year is crucial, and as for the next, we'll see."
