Enea Bastianini Expresses Disbelief Over Ducati’s Rider Decisions Amidst Silverstone Triumph
Enea Bastianini expressed confusion over Ducati's choice to part ways with both him and Jorge Martin.
Enea Bastianini has propelled himself into the MotoGP title race after securing a win at Silverstone.
Similar to the performance in the Saturday sprint, Bastianini delivered an outstanding performance by overtaking Jorge Martin to secure the win.
"I'm thrilled with how things turned out for me this weekend," Bastianini commented immediately following the race.
"During this summer break, I spent a lot of time contemplating ways to improve."
"I assessed my speed and found that it was consistently strong enough to secure a podium finish in each race."
"However, I often started from a disadvantage and frequently missed the opportunity for a time attack. This weekend, though, the strategy for the time attack was effective."
"Yesterday marked my initial triumph in the sprint event, and today I secured a win in the main race. I am thrilled to clinch the title at the 75th Anniversary Grand Prix."
Even with his two victories, Bastianini does not consider himself a contender for the title, though he is now within 50 points of the series lead.
Bastianini stated, "At this point, I don’t consider myself a contender for the title. Pecco and Jorge have shown greater consistency in every race and are consistently leading."
"I've occasionally sensed something but lagged behind. To become a title contender, I need to make progress in that area."
"I aim to maintain this performance throughout the championship. When the championship concludes, if I still have this chance, we will evaluate the situation."
In recent races, Bastianini and Martin have both outperformed Marc Marquez.
Marquez secured the position to be Francesco Bagnaia's teammate for the upcoming season. Although Bastianini and Martin will have access to the GP24, which Marquez won't, the Italian rider is puzzled as to why Ducati decided to let go of two significant talents in favor of Marquez.
When questioned about who would be at a disadvantage without the other, Bastianini responded: "Time will tell. I don't get why Ducati made that decision, as they've lost two riders like myself and Jorge."
"I respect this decision. Regarding KTM, I believe it will be a suitable bike for me, but since I haven't ridden it yet, I can't comment on how it compares to the Ducati in terms of strengths."
