Enea Bastianini secured Ducati’s milestone 100th grand prix victory with a contentious overtaking move on Jorge Martin during the final lap at the Emilia Romagna MotoGP.
Both riders veered off the track following the maneuver, yet managed to stay on their bikes.
It seems that the FIM Stewards are not taking any measures, as Bastianini is positioned on the highest podium step.
Regardless, Martin has managed to extend his lead to 24 points ahead of Francesco Bagnaia in the world championship rankings after the Italian rider dramatically crashed.
Bagnaia experienced his seventh non-finish of the season after losing control of the front end while braking, as he attempted to catch up to Martin and Bastianini with 7 laps remaining.
Martin continued to fend off Bastianini, who had been closely trailing the Pramac Ducati rider ever since they both overtook a slow-moving Bagnaia early in the race.
In the last lap, Bastianini made a daring move by diving inside of Martin at the Turn 14 hairpin…
At the same time, Ducati secured the 2024 constructors' championship.
Marc Marquez, the victor of the San Marino race, had anticipated finishing fourth again as he did on Saturday. However, he moved up to third place due to a mistake made by Bagnaia.
The Gresini racer gained an advantage when Brad Binder and Pedro Acosta both had accidents and dropped out of the race.
As anticipated, the majority of racers changed from using the soft rear tire in the Sprint to opting for a medium rear tire for the 27-lap main event.
Nevertheless, Marco Bezzecchi, who finished eighth yesterday, took a risk by opting for the soft rear tire.
The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was the second race in a back-to-back series at Misano, which was scheduled to replace the canceled events in India and Kazakhstan.
Repsol Honda’s Joan Mir was absent for the whole San Marino Grand Prix because he was suffering from severe gastroenteritis. His teammate, Joan Mir, also pulled out of the race on Sunday because he was unwell.
This weekend saw the return of both Honda riders, but Alex Rins from Monster Yamaha had to pull out of the event on Saturday morning because he was feeling unwell.
New regulations for tyre pressure in 2024 require riders to maintain a front tyre pressure of at least 1.8 bar, down from 1.88 bar, for 60% of the race distance in a Grand Prix, compared to the previous 50%, or for 30% of a Sprint race.
The consequence for not reaching the minimum requirements in a Grand Prix is a time penalty added after the race, which is 16 seconds. For a Sprint or shorter race, the penalty is 8 seconds.
MotoGP is now moving directly to Mandalika for the Indonesian Grand Prix scheduled for next weekend.
