Ducati’s Dominant Display at Austria MotoGP Heralds ‘Real Values’ of Championship, Says Dall’Igna
Gigi Dall’Igna comments on Ducati's supremacy in Austria MotoGP as a true representation of the championship's core strengths
Ducati's leader evaluates team's showing at Red Bull Ring
Ducati's team leader Gigi Dall’Igna believes the team's strong performance at the Austrian Grand Prix truly represents what the 2024 MotoGP season is all about.
At the previous weekend's Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring, the Italian team secured the first four positions, with Francesco Bagnaia finishing 3.232 seconds ahead of Pramac's Jorge Martin when the race concluded.
Enea Bastianini finished on the podium, while Marc Marquez climbed back to fourth place, overcoming an early setback that had him down in 13th position at the start of the race.
In his analysis following the grand prix, Dall'Igna noted, "As expected, the first four spots in the race mirror the current rankings in the world championship, accurately representing the true competition levels on the circuit.
"We extend our gratitude to every one of our riders for showcasing the power of our motorcycle, and we offer our heartfelt thanks to the dedicated men and women of Ducati Corse for their exceptional contributions."
At the Austrian Grand Prix, Bagnaia achieved his 25th win, matching the total victories of Kevin Schwantz, the 1993 500cc world champion. This victory also marked Ducati's 17th time securing all three podium positions, tying with Honda's historical record.
Ducati achieved its eighth consecutive podium sweep, setting a new record.
"Dall'Igna remarked on the historic achievement, as Ducati secures yet another complete podium sweep at a circuit where they have consistently excelled, celebrating their ninth victory at this location. This victory also signifies Bagnaia's 25th triumph in MotoGP, marking his third consecutive win here."
"Bagnaia now ranks among the ten riders with the highest number of victories in the history of the premier class, achieving this milestone by leading virtually the entire race and securing a convincing victory, following his win in the sprint race on Saturday."
"The dominance was unshakeable, marked by a compelling command and an outstanding race strategy in a challenging situation brought on by the soaring temperatures on a circuit where preventing passing maneuvers is crucial."
Thus it unfolded: upon securing the forefront position in the competition, he consistently maintained dominance, demonstrating remarkable speed and clarity of mind, effectively denying his competitors any opportunity to retaliate, and executing his decisive strike at the opportune moment to seal the victory.
"A definitive victor. As expected, Pecco outshone all competitors with his performance."
Bagnaia has moved to the top of the leaderboard, holding a five-point advantage over Martin. Bastianini finds himself in third place, trailing by 61 points, while Marquez is in fourth, 83 points behind. The closest competitor not riding a Ducati, Maverick Vinales on Aprilia, is fifth in the standings, 136 points away from the leading position.
