Ducati’s Austria MotoGP Triumph: Dall’Igna Hails ‘Real Values’ of 2024 Championship
Gigi Dall’Igna believes Ducati’s strong showing at the Austria MotoGP highlights the true competitive standards of the championship. Ducati's team leader reviews their performance at the Red Bull Ring.
Ducati's general manager, Gigi Dall’Igna, believes that Ducati's strong performance at the Austrian Grand Prix showcased the true competitive landscape of the 2024 MotoGP championship.
The Italian team dominated the top four positions in last weekend’s grand prix at the Red Bull Ring, with Francesco Bagnaia finishing 3.232 seconds ahead of Pramac’s Jorge Martin as they crossed the finish line.
Enea Bastianini secured the final spot on the podium, while Marc Marquez made an impressive comeback to finish fourth after beginning the race in 13th position due to a rough start.
In his analysis after the grand prix, Dall'Igna remarked, "As expected, the top four finishers in the race align with the current world championship rankings, accurately representing the true competitive landscape on the track."
“We appreciate all our riders for showcasing the power of our bike, and especially extend our gratitude to the entire Ducati Corse team for their exceptional efforts.”
At the Austrian Grand Prix, Bagnaia achieved his 25th career win, matching the total of 1993 500cc world champion Kevin Schwantz. Additionally, this event marked the 17th time Ducati secured all top three podium positions, tying Honda's record.
Ducati secured its eighth consecutive podium sweep, further extending its record.
"More milestones that will be remembered in history as Ducati achieves another complete podium at a track where we have had much success. This victory marks our ninth win at this circuit and celebrates Bagnaia's 25th MotoGP win, his third consecutive one here," Dall’Igna mentioned.
"Bagnaia now ranks among the top ten riders with the most victories in premier class history. He achieved this with a commanding performance in a lengthy race, leading from the beginning to the end, and securing a decisive double victory following his sprint win on Saturday."
The performance was consistently dominant, characterized by a commanding presence and exceptional race management, all within the challenging context of high temperatures on a track where preventing overtakes is crucial.
"As the race progressed, he maintained his lead effortlessly, showcasing remarkable speed and unwavering clarity. He gave his competitors no opportunity to catch up, striking decisively at the perfect moment to secure his victory."
"A true champion. As expected, Pecco outperformed everyone."
Bagnaia is currently at the top of the leaderboard, holding a five-point advantage over Martin. Bastianini trails by 61 points in third place, while Marquez is 83 points behind in fourth. The highest-ranking non-Ducati rider is Maverick Vinales on the Aprilia, who is in fifth place, 136 points away from the championship lead.
