Ducati Pledges Full Support to Jorge Martin in MotoGP Title Pursuit Amid Looming Split
Ducati clarifies their position on backing Jorge Martin in the championship race
Ducati reveals strategy for handling the current MotoGP championship contest
Ducati has promised to back Jorge Martin in his pursuit of the MotoGP title, even though they will soon be parting ways.
In 2025, Martin decided to join Aprilia after Ducati opted to select Marc Marquez for their factory team instead of him.
This implies that Pramac’s Martin has the potential to secure the championship title this season and then switch to a competing manufacturer of Ducati for the following year.
Mauro Grassilli, the sporting director for Ducati, mentioned to Motosprint that they have contemplated the scenario of Martin clinching the championship: "Absolutely."
"All things considered, there's a chance that Jorge might succeed."
"Ducati will do everything possible for Martin, and Gigi Dall'Igna would agree with this statement."
"We will continue to back Pramac and the Spanish individual as per the agreements and with a professional attitude."
During the previous MotoGP race at the Sachsenring, Martin fell behind in the championship standings.
He is set to compete at Silverstone next weekend, currently holding second place and trailing the champion, Pecco Bagnaia, by 10 points.
Ducati is confident that they will secure the championship this season, whether it is through Bagnaia, Martin, or Marquez.
In the upcoming season, Marquez will team up with Bagnaia in red, as Martin departs.
Grassilli commented on the departure of Martin, Enea Bastianini, Marco Bezzecchi, and the Pramac team: "It's significant. Indeed."
"Putting it into words is challenging: alongside the logical professional relationship, elements like friendship and the human factor also play a role."
"Among the three listed points, the second and third will stay, but unfortunately, the first one will be removed. As for the names mentioned, regrettably, all of them will be removed."
"When we planned out the future situation, we only had one spot open. As a result, two riders were inevitably unhappy."
"This includes Jorge, who, as I mentioned before, will receive the highest level of support and attention."
"Regarding Enea, when asked if the unfortunate events of 2023 influenced the decisions, the answer is no. Absolutely not."
"Regarding Pramac, we made efforts to retain him: Claudio Domenicali got personally involved. We continued our attempts up until the final moment. It was all in vain."
Bezzecchi from VR46 has decided to depart and team up with Martin, creating Aprilia's official duo for the 2025 season.
"I'm sorry for him as well," Grassilli expressed.
“Marco was evidently looking for specific answers that we didn’t give him. Ultimately, it came down to timing.”
"We completely comprehend why he chose this career path."
