Davide Brivio Unveils the Strategic Vision Behind Ai Ogura’s Trackhouse MotoGP Signing for 2025
Davide Brivio discusses the conceptual reasoning for Ai Ogura's recruitment to Trackhouse MotoGP
Team leader of Trackhouse MotoGP, Davide Brivio, provides insights into the rationale for bringing Ai Ogura on board, emphasizing its theoretical basis.
The announcement of Ai Ogura joining the Trackhouse Aprilia MotoGP squad for the 2025 campaign has emerged as a significant highlight during the 2024 Austrian MotoGP weekend.
Since beginning his racing journey in 2015, the rider from Japan has developed his skills under the guidance of HRC, progressing from the Asia Talent Cup to Moto2. However, he is set to part ways with HRC and join Aprilia in the upcoming year.
Team principal Davide Brivio of Trackhouse Racing stated that their understanding and impression of Ogura played a key role in choosing to bring the 23-year-old rider from Japan into their team.
"Brivio expressed to MotoGP.com their belief in his exceptional skills, stating, 'We consider him an outstanding talent, and in my view, he ranks among the top talents in Moto2.' They feel it's the appropriate moment for his transition to MotoGP."
Brivio discussed Ogura's approach to entering corners, noting that Ogura is recognized for his unique technique of coming in at an angle.
"Brivio mentioned that his approach to riding appears promising within the MotoGP context," he remarked. "However, the true test will come once he's actually on the MotoGP motorcycle. Decisions like these largely rely on intuition and assessments. Nevertheless, we're quite optimistic about his prospects of becoming a successful MotoGP competitor."
Nonetheless, Brivio acknowledged that there are no guarantees, and that speculations regarding Ogura's capabilities in MotoGP remain entirely speculative until he actually gets a chance to test the RS-GP.
"Brivio clarified, "As I mentioned, it remains a concept. Everything is hypothetical at this stage, alright? Since we haven't observed him on a [MotoGP] motorcycle, it's all speculative. However, it appears to be nearly aligned with the prerequisites for participating in MotoGP.
"I didn't make this decision on my own—it was informed by insights from our team. We took everything into account: his skill, his youth, the promise of his technique, and ultimately, we chose to back him."
Raul Fernandez has been confirmed to remain with Trackhouse throughout the summer break, ensuring the American-owned team's lineup for its second year is set.
"After securing Raul, who is 24 years old, our goal was to rejuvenate our initiative by bringing on board another youthful competitor to accompany him as we aim to create something meaningful," Brivio explained. "Our focus is on developing a project, crafting a team, and establishing a legacy, so this presents a chance to breathe new life into our efforts and set our sights on what lies ahead, with optimism."
The presence of two emerging talents in the satellite Aprilia team doesn't imply that they aim to function merely as a stepping stone for racers aspiring to move up to the official factory teams.
"Frankly, our aim is to retain the riders within our team rather than have them move on to a factory team," Brivio stated. "We acknowledge it's a significant challenge, we're all conscious of that. However, as previously mentioned, we're developing a project with Trackhouse.
"This marks the inaugural season for Trackhouse, and we often refer to it as a 'year of learning.' It's crucial for us to gain experience and help Trackhouse get acclimated to MotoGP. Following this, the next couple of years will be focused on development and establishing a solid foundation for the team."
"Therefore, I believe it's logical: with two youthful cyclists, the team needs to develop, gain knowledge, and enhance its performance, thus collectively advancing the project."
"Subsequently, if we manage to build an exceptional team and foster a positive environment, perhaps we'll encourage the riders to remain content and stay."
