Daniel Ricciardo Reflects on Possible End to F1 Career as Red Bull Decision Approaches
Daniel Ricciardo feels content even if the Singapore Grand Prix turns out to be his last race in Formula 1, as a crucial decision from Red Bull approaches.
Daniel Ricciardo has expressed that he is "at peace" with the possibility of his F1 career concluding after the Singapore Grand Prix.
There has been a lot of speculation surrounding Ricciardo's future, as it appears Red Bull is preparing to make a change at VCARB for the United States Grand Prix.
Liam Lawson is anticipated to replace Ricciardo and race with Yuki Tsunoda at COTA next month.
Although it hasn't been officially confirmed, the events at the conclusion of the race in Singapore imply that Sunday could have marked Ricciardo's final performance.
Following the race, the Australian driver became emotional and teared up while talking to F1TV.
Ricciardo lingered in his VCARB F1 car for a long while before stepping out, contemplating the possibility that this might be his last drive.
In an interview with Sky Sports following the race at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, Ricciardo openly discussed the circumstances.
Ricciardo expressed that he feels content with the situation. He acknowledged that eventually, everyone faces such moments. He made an effort to return to Red Bull, but it was unsuccessful. He also reflected on his broader purpose and goals.
"When you've felt the thrill of victory, striving for 10th place can only satisfy you for so long. There's nothing like the sensation of winning, and if achieving that becomes less likely and more challenging, I believe that's just the reality of the situation."
"I managed to achieve some notable successes this year, but maintaining that level consistently each week was more challenging. It could be due to my age of 35, or perhaps the competition has just become tougher, it's hard to say."
Ricciardo faced a challenging time during the weekend in Singapore.
He was eliminated in the first qualifying session and ended up at the back of the pack, but managed to secure the fastest lap following a pit stop towards the end of the
Ricciardo acknowledged that he must be "ready" for the possibility that the Singapore Grand Prix could be his final Formula 1 race.
“I must admit that each race has been approached individually,” Ricciardo mentioned. “Of course, I would have preferred if the weekend had turned out more favorably.”
“It didn’t happen. I must be ready for this eventuality, perhaps this is the moment.”
