Daniel Ricciardo Receives Reprimand for Risky Pit Lane Weave at British GP
Daniel Ricciardo receives a warning for an atypical swerving incident in the pit lane during the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
Daniel Ricciardo received a warning from the F1 officials for an unusual zigzagging incident in the pit lane during the last practice session before the British Grand Prix.
Ricciardo was observed zigzagging while moving through the pit lane during the third free practice session.
The officials promptly observed it and looked into Ricciardo's peculiar behavior.
Ricciardo attempted to warm up his intermediate tires, however, doing so in the pit lane was considered dangerous due to the tight space around other vehicles and team members.
The officials issued a warning to Ricciardo after the Red Bull racer admitted his behavior "didn't present well."
The explanation provided by the stewards stated: "The team directed the driver to maintain the tyre temperatures while heading into the pits, and the driver decided to zigzag while in the fast lane."
Several members from other teams were situated in pit areas close to the rapid lane, posing a risk that the swerving of Car 3 could have led to collisions with these individuals, particularly given the slippery conditions.
The person behind the wheel of Car 3 admitted that his behavior did not present well and promised the officials that such conduct would not be repeated.
Had Ricciardo lost control and rotated his vehicle, it's probable that he would have received a penalty on the starting grid.
Valtteri Bottas received a three-spot grid drop for the Styrian Grand Prix due to spinning his Mercedes in the pit lane.
Without attempting to heat his tires, Bottas found himself unable to maintain control of his vehicle.
Luckily, Bottas managed to steer clear of any collisions with people or objects in the pit lane.
The officials at that moment considered the behavior to be "possibly hazardous driving."
