Daniel Ricciardo Ponders His Future in F1: Reflects on Achievements and Uncertain Road Ahead
Daniel Ricciardo contemplates if he's had his final Formula 1 race, pondering, "What more is there to aim for?"
He reflects, "I need to consider what more I can accomplish. What's left to truly strive for?"
Daniel Ricciardo has acknowledged questioning "what more is there to truly aim for?" as his short-term future in F1 remains doubtful before the upcoming hiatus.
Speculation about Ricciardo's career has been rampant, with rumors indicating that Liam Lawson will take over his spot in the upcoming October race at COTA.
The Australian faced more challenges in Singapore, ending up in 18th place.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Ricciardo was questioned about his current mental state and his thoughts on his Formula 1 career, considering the possibility that Singapore might have been his last grand prix.
"Ricciardo mentioned, “It's important for me to explain the reason behind my return after my time with McLaren. I’ve always maintained that my comeback wasn’t just to fill a spot on the starting lineup.
"I aim to make a comeback at the forefront, and return to Red Bull. However, it didn't materialize. I also need to reflect on what more I can accomplish. What other goals are there truly to pursue?"
"I gave it my all, but unfortunately, the dream outcome didn't materialize. I must also reflect on the journey it’s been – roughly 13 years.
"I feel honored, and usually, we drivers don't pay much attention to being named driver of the day, but today, I truly value it. This one today holds special significance for me."
During a challenging day at the Singapore Grand Prix, Ricciardo managed to secure the fastest lap time.
Max Verstappen's quickest lap time is expected to boost his championship chances, especially since Lando Norris was ahead with an extra point until Ricciardo made a final push.
Looking back at the race, Ricciardo commented, "It was challenging. Clearly, after the outcome of qualifying yesterday, where we didn't start where we hoped, we recognized the need to attempt a different strategy. Perhaps timing a Safety Car intervention could have worked in our favor.
Based on my understanding, it was a challenging race for passing. There weren't many drivers making their way through the field. We opted for an aggressive start with soft tires, hoping at some point luck would be on our side.
It didn't work out in the end. It seemed like we had a good chance on Friday, but our speed, particularly during the race, wasn't up to par. I'm not sure about Yuki's performance, but I noticed he didn't score any points. Despite starting in a position to score, our pace simply wasn't fast enough. Towards the end, Pierre suggested aiming for the fastest lap, and it crossed my mind… if Max secures the championship by a single point, I've just earned myself a fantastic Christmas gift.
