Crossroads for Oliveira: Between Yamaha’s Interest and Trackhouse Aprilia’s Future
A pair of motorcycles in contention, yet Miguel Oliveira, praised for his intelligence, is expected to choose wisely. Despite not meeting expectations for Aprilia's main team, Oliveira still has two alternatives available.
Support is being shown for Miguel Oliveira to choose wisely regarding his next steps.
Staying with Trackhouse Aprilia remains a feasible choice even as his current contract comes to an end, yet the emerging Pramac project by Yamaha is also reportedly keen on acquiring his services.
Oliveira was bypassed for a spot on the Aprilia factory team next year, with Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi being chosen instead.
"Michael Laverty mentioned on TNT Sports that he hasn't put in sufficient effort to justify it."
"Everyone is aware of Miguel's talent, but it's essential to perform in this sport."
Oliveira experienced his highlight of 2024 during the Saturday events of the German MotoGP.
He secured the second spot in qualifying, and then took the runner-up position behind Martin in the sprint race. Oliveira claimed sixth place in the Sunday race, showcasing his skills as a reminder of his capabilities.
"Laverty mentioned that since he's discovered some initial success with his foundational set-up, allowing him to focus on refining the nuances once he gets to a track, that's the point where you can really maximize your potential and tailor your riding technique."
He hadn't discovered the perfect position, but he has now achieved it.
Yamaha has shown interest in him due to his reputation as one of the smartest riders in the competition.
He possesses both expertise and youthfulness. There's significant promise in him if it can be harnessed effectively.
It's understandable why Yamaha would extend a contract offer to him.
Is it likely that he would choose that option instead of the [Trackhouse] agreement, considering he was overlooked for [the factory Aprilia] position? Perhaps not.
"He's a smart cyclist who will choose wisely."
Sylvain Guintoli mentioned, "He would certainly fit well with [Yamaha], whether he chooses to move there or otherwise.
The collaboration between Trackhouse and Aprilia, under Davide Brivio's guidance, is beginning to come together smoothly.
Typically, there's a cumulative positive impact, with improvements building upon each other, boosting your confidence. As this occurs, the idea of leaving becomes less appealing. Recently, we've observed encouraging indicators, suggesting this isn't just an isolated incident.
I empathize with Miguel from last year; he wasn't to blame. He adapted quickly and meshed well with the Aprilia, but suffered an injury at Portimao, followed by another in Jerez.
He needed time to recover. It's rewarding when you're able to resist and make a comeback.
Pramac's leader Paolo Campinoti, set to transition the team from Ducati to Yamaha in the upcoming season, has identified Oliveira and Jack Miller as seasoned riders he's eyeing for the team's revamped lineup in 2025.
