Copyright Concerns Force Last-Minute Trophy Redesign at F1 US Grand Prix: Pirelli’s Artistic Vision Altered
Why Pirelli Altered the Design of the F1 US GP Trophy at the Eleventh Hour
The reasons behind the sudden modification of the trophy design for the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix have been clarified.
Pirelli altered its intended trophies for the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix because of unexpected copyright issues at the last minute.
The tire manufacturer for Formula 1 had a special 'Heroo' design created by artist and designer Matteo Macchiavelli specifically for the United States Grand Prix. However, these unique tires were not showcased on the podium following the race.

In contrast, Charles Leclerc, who secured the victory, was awarded a conventional trophy. Meanwhile, his Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz and Red Bull's Max Verstappen were given Pirelli tire-shaped trophies for their second and third-place finishes, respectively.
After Sunday's grand prix, Pirelli informed Motorsport that, upon realizing there might be resemblances to existing designs, they and the race promoter opted to discontinue the use of the trophy.
The initial announcement about the unique trophy design was removed from the website of the Italian tire manufacturer.
Collectors and fans were set to have the opportunity to purchase limited edition copies of the ‘Heroo’ trophy. However, it remains uncertain if this plan will proceed as intended.
The award looks very similar to the artistic figures and collectibles designed by the Bearbrick brand.
