Christian Horner Denies Veto on Jos Verstappen’s Legends Parade Drive Amid Escalating Tensions
'Not blocking it,' says Christian Horner as he robustly counters Jos Verstappen's assertion
Christian Horner, the principal of Red Bull Racing, refutes the statements made by the father of Max Verstappen, Jos.
Christian Horner, the team boss of Red Bull Racing, has clarified that he didn't block Jos Verstappen's participation in the Legends Parade at the Austrian Grand Prix, according to Lewis Larkam's coverage in Austria.
The strain between Horner and the father of Max Verstappen seems to have intensified following accusations from Verstappen's father that Horner intentionally prevented his planned drive in the championship-winning RB8 at the Legends Parade at the Red Bull Ring on Sunday.
Verstappen Sr leveled accusations of immaturity at Horner, stating to Formule1.nl that he has utterly lost patience with the Red Bull team leader.
During the FIA press conference in Austria on Friday, Horner faced questions about the stories circulating in the Dutch press.
"Horner has acknowledged, stating, 'The circuit is responsible for organizing the Legends Parade.'"
"I didn't issue any veto or anything of that nature, and I'm confident that the Legends will make an appearance later on."
Horner, following a disagreement with Verstappen Sr during the first Grand Prix of the season in Bahrain, gave a guarded reply when questioned about the current state of their relationship.
"Horner expressed that their connection with Max has consistently been robust and positive. He emphasized Max's crucial role within the team, noting the significance of maintaining a solid rapport with him as their driver."
"In my experience, I've never encountered problems with the fathers of any of our drivers. As for the concerns related to Jos, I truly have no remarks to make."
He was subsequently pressured on the significance of upholding a positive rapport with the father of his leading driver.
Horner responded, saying, "I'm focused on how the team is doing. We have an incredible team with amazing drivers, and in Max, we have the top driver globally."
He joined our team when he was quite young, and since then, he's continuously developed, both professionally and personally. His evolution as a racer and as an individual is remarkable. The manner in which he interacts with the team and carries himself is exceptional. That's what matters most to me.
"The focus is on the team's effectiveness and its collective operation. Despite the challenges faced this year, our team has experienced significant triumphs, securing victories in 70% of the races we've participated in. This includes winning two sprint races and achieving pole position seven times. Currently, we are at the forefront of both world championships."
"Indeed, not all aspects of life are within our control. Managing the dynamics with the drivers' fathers isn't something I have influence over. However, my primary concern lies with our drivers' performance and the overall success of our team. That's where my attention will continue to be directed."
In response to inquiries about the breakdown of the relationship, Horner stated: "I believe it's not beneficial to keep discussing the matter concerning Jos."
"Our attention is primarily on Max. He's the driver we're committed to through our contract, and our goal is to secure a victory in this grand prix with him."
