China Investigates Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger’s Parent Company PVH Over Alleged ‘Discriminatory Measures’ Involving Xinjiang Cotton
China initiates investigation into Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger's parent company, PVH Group, concerning Xinjiang cotton issue
The Chinese Commerce Ministry has launched a probe into PVH Group, accusing it of 'discriminatory practices' linked to Xinjiang.
China has initiated a probe into the parent company of apparel brands Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, citing "discriminatory actions" tied to goods from its remote Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. This action is expected to further exacerbate the existing trade conflicts with the United States.
Following notifications received by the UEL office from different organizations, the department announced suspicions that the US company may have breached standard market operation rules by deliberately shunning Xinjiang cotton and other goods. The department further stated that this behavior greatly compromises the legal rights and benefits of Chinese businesses and poses a risk to China's sovereignty, security, and advancement interests.
According to the department's announcement, PVH is required to provide all written records pertinent to the case from the last three years within a month. Meanwhile, PVH has the opportunity to present its argument. Concurrently, the UEL office will carry out its independent probe, which will include questioning and examining documents.
