Brno’s Grand Return: MotoGP to Revive Czech Grand Prix in 2025 After Four-Year Hiatus
MotoGP returns to Brno in 2025
Following a hiatus of four years, the MotoGP race will once again be held in the Czech Republic.
The MotoGP schedule will see the return of the Czech Republic Grand Prix in Brno in 2025.
From 1987 to 2020, Brno was the venue for a widely attended grand prix event almost every year, regularly drawing crowds exceeding 200,000 enthusiasts.
Nonetheless, its inclusion in the 2021 calendar was contingent upon a full repaving, demanded by the riders for safety reasons.
However, the financial health of the racing circuit was already in decline because of the Covid pandemic, and since it seemed that government assistance wasn't forthcoming to address the shortfall, the event was consequently removed from the MotoGP schedule.
Ownership of the circuit transitioned last year, with entrepreneur Karel Hubacek acquiring it from the company owned by Karel Abraham Sr.
During a press briefing held at the race track on Wednesday afternoon, which was attended by the Czech Republic's Prime Minister, Petr Fiala, and featured Dorna's Carmelo Ezpeleta through a video call, Hubacek announced that MotoGP would be making a comeback to Brno for the seasons spanning 2025 to 2029.
"We're thrilled to share the news of our comeback to Brno," Ezpeleta expressed. "It's an iconic track, featuring an exceptional design that has hosted numerous unforgettable events throughout its extensive MotoGP history.
We're thrilled to be back and present more, featuring the Tissot Sprint every weekend, along with additional experiences for fans to immerse themselves in and connect with their idols like never before.
"Time and again, our sport has drawn immense enthusiasm, filling the slopes here with eager spectators, especially during the years it garnered the highest attendance at the Grand Prix. We are thrilled to announce the return of MotoGP to our dedicated fans in Czechia."
Jan Šťovíček, the leader of the Czech Republic's Autoklub, emphasized that Hubacek's fresh investment is crucial for ensuring the return of MotoGP to Brno.
I've always believed that MotoGP would make a comeback to Brno. Over the years, numerous inquiries from riders, team executives, along with Dorna and FIM representatives, have come my way, all eager to know the status and when we would return, given the widespread fondness for Brno.
The transformation became achievable thanks to the switch in circuit ownership, with the incoming proprietor opting to fund the improvement of this legendary venue.
"Hearty appreciation goes out to the Czech Government and Prime Minister Mr. Fiala, the South Moravian Region along with Governor Mr. Grolich, the City of Brno and Mayor Mrs. Vaňková, as well as the event collaborator Creditas Group!"
Prime Minister Petr Fiala stated, "The tradition of motorcycle racing at the Brno Masaryk Circuit goes back to the 1950s."
MotoGP stands as an esteemed international occasion, drawing in crowds by the tens of thousands to the Czech Republic, notably to the South Moravia region, with a significant portion of these attendees arriving from overseas.
"I'm delighted that we've succeeded in preserving this custom, allowing the MotoGP race to make its comeback to Brno following a five-year hiatus."
