Brivio Confirms Zeelenberg’s Departure from Trackhouse Aprilia at End of 2024 Season
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be stepping down from his position at Trackhouse Aprilia by the conclusion of 2024, with the confirmation made during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Last weekend, Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team after the 2024 season concludes.
Zeelenberg, who originally joined the Trackhouse team when it first appeared as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will depart from the satellite Aprilia project after its second season with the Noale brand, marking the first season under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar prior to last Sunday's Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio, who became part of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, discussed Zeelenberg's exit. He described the decision as "very difficult" and noted that it is part of the American-owned team's effort to explore "a new direction."
“We talked about this [Zeelenberg leaving],” Brivio stated. “We made this choice together. Wilco [Zeelenberg] deserves a lot of praise for his contributions.”
"To be frank, when I got here, I encountered a team that he had developed over the years. Furthermore, most of the team will remain unchanged next year, so he deserves significant recognition for what he has established."
"As Trackhouse, we considered that moving forward, we might need to take a different path. It's unfortunate on one hand, but it's also a business decision on the other."
"It's never easy to deal with such circumstances, and reaching this decision has been incredibly challenging."
The fate of Zeelenberg remains uncertain at this time. Previously a winner in the 250cc Grand Prix, the Dutchman served as a team manager for both Jorge Lorenzo and Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP team. In 2019, he transitioned to the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT team.
