Brad Binder’s Rolling Burnout and Jack Miller’s Last Lap Duel Highlight Aragon MotoGP Drama
Brad Binder exclaimed, "I experienced another rolling burnout!" Meanwhile, Jack Miller mentioned being "overtaken by Rins." Binder also shared, "Last night, I came up with a solid strategy to avoid spinning out at the start…"
Brad Binder had his best MotoGP weekend since the season started in Qatar, achieving 4th and 6th place finishes at Aragon.
Despite veering off the track in both competitions, he still managed to secure seventh place, benefiting from starting on the cleaner side of a messy grid.
During the middle portion of the race, Binder followed rookie Pedro Acosta, turning their contest into a fight for third place after Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia collided with 5 laps remaining.
However, Acosta remained just beyond grasp.
"I had a solid strategy last night to avoid losing traction at the start, and I executed a rolling burnout just like I did yesterday!" Binder said with a smile.
"I navigated carefully and overtook some competitors. It was challenging to avoid errors since the front tire was overheating from trailing others until the final part of the race."
"I attempted to gain time by accelerating out of the corners, as I couldn't approach them quickly due to the front tire overheating. However, this strategy backfired in the end, leaving the left side of the tire completely worn out."
"I gave it my all to overtake Pedro, but I couldn't find any room from behind!"
"Aside from that, we took a few encouraging steps forward this weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective throughout the race."
Fellow team member Jack Miller had a powerful start, advancing from 15th place on the grid to eighth place by the conclusion of the first lap. However, the Australian quickly faced challenges with maintaining rear grip.
After being overtaken by Alex Rins on the final lap and losing the ninth position, he, along with two other riders, was penalized with a 16-second post-race penalty for tyre pressure violations, which caused him to fall to 15th place.
“It was a lengthy race,” commented Miller. “The track conditions varied once more. It had been dirty for most of the weekend, but today it felt even more slippery.”
"I gave it my all. It was challenging to manage the [medium] rear tire, and I experienced a major highside incident while exiting the final corner."
"I found my pace and focused on maintaining it. There were several challenges when transitioning from the tire's edge to its center, but I managed to finish the race."
"I didn't make any errors during the race, but I had a hard time keeping up with the guys ahead. We'll continue to put in the effort."
Pleased to finish in the top ten, but Rins edged past me on the final lap's back straight. I tried my best to be as accurate as possible, but a poor acceleration allowed him to overtake me down the straight.
“We’ll return to Misano in the future.”
A fifth KTM rider will be added this weekend with test rider Pol Espargaro participating as a wild-card entry.
“Next, we’re heading to Misano, where we’ll also focus on the upcoming test and Pol’s wildcard entry, which will be beneficial for us moving forward,” stated team manager Francesco Guidotti.
The initial round of the Misano MotoGP will commence with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, as Acosta currently occupies the fifth position in the world championship standings.
Miller, who might be formally announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider during the team's Italian Grand Prix, is currently in 15th place, trailing Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo by three points.
