Brad Binder Overcomes Burnouts While Jack Miller Gets ‘Nipped by Rins’ at Aragon MotoGP
Brad Binder exclaimed, “I ended up doing another rolling burnout!” Meanwhile, Jack Miller mentioned he was “nipped by Rins.” Reflecting on his race strategy, Binder shared, “I had come up with a solid plan last night to avoid spinning out at the start…”
Brad Binder achieved his best point total in a MotoGP weekend since the Qatar season opener, securing 4th and 6th place finishes at Aragon.
This occurred even though he veered off course in both races, with his seventh-place finish coming from the less cluttered section of an untidy starting grid.
Binder trailed rookie Pedro Acosta during the middle portion of the race. This chase turned into a fight for third place when Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia collided with 5 laps remaining.
However, Acosta remained just beyond grasp.
"I came up with a solid strategy last night to avoid losing traction at the start, and I managed to do another rolling burnout just like I did yesterday!" said Binder with a smile.
"I navigated through the field and overtook several competitors. It was challenging to avoid errors as the front tire was overheating from following others until the final stretch of the race."
"I attempted to recover time when exiting corners since I couldn't go in too quickly due to the front tire overheating. However, this strategy backfired as the left side of the tire was completely worn out by the end."
"I put in all my effort to overtake Pedro, but there was no room left behind him!"
"Aside from that, we made a number of positive strides this weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective throughout the race."
Fellow team member Jack Miller had a strong start, moving up from 15th position on the grid to eighth place by the conclusion of the first lap. However, it wasn't long before the Australian racer encountered issues with rear tire traction.
After being overtaken by Alex Rins in the final lap and finishing in ninth place, he was subsequently penalized, along with two other riders, with a 16-second post-race penalty for tyre pressure violations, which caused him to drop to 15th position.
"It's been a long race," Miller commented. "The track conditions changed once more. It was mostly dirty throughout the weekend, but today it felt more slippery."
"I gave it my all. It was tough managing the [medium] rear tire, and I had a significant highside incident while exiting the final turn."
“I found my pace and focused on maintaining it. There were several challenges transitioning from the tire’s edge to its center… but I managed to finish.”
"There were no errors during the race, but I found it challenging to keep up with the guys ahead of me. We will continue to persevere."
"Glad to finish in the top ten, though Rins overtook me on the final lap's back straight. I was trying my best to be accurate, but a poor drive allowed him to pass me."
"We will return to Misano."
This weekend, KTM will have five riders on the track as test rider Pol Espargaro joins as a wild-card entry.
“Next, we head to Misano, where we’ll also focus on the upcoming test and Pol’s wildcard entry, which will provide us with valuable insights for the future,” stated team manager Francesco Guidotti.
The initial Misano MotoGP race will commence with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, who is currently in fifth place in the world championship standings.
Miller, who might be formally announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider during the team's home races in Italy, is currently in 15th place, trailing Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo by three points.
