Brad Binder Calls for KTM Upgrades as Rivals Dominate: Insights from the German Grand Prix
"The frontrunners are in a class by themselves" – Brad Binder calls for KTM to step up
Brad Binder: "We need to discover something because the competitors ahead are in a class of their own."
Brad Binder is confident that KTM has identified a clear path forward as they approach the MotoGP summer break.
Even though Binder ended up in ninth place at the German Grand Prix, he felt significantly improved on his RC16 after making major adjustments to his bike on Saturday.
Binder was in seventh place as he approached the last lap, but a mistake in the final section gave Pedro Acosta the opportunity to overtake him. As a result, the newcomer became the highest-placed KTM rider in the race.
“We implemented significant adjustments for today’s race, especially during the warm-up session,” stated Binder. “The motorcycle's performance improved noticeably, making it more manageable. These modifications led to better cornering capabilities during the race.”
“The bike's braking improved somewhat, but it's evident that we need to make further adjustments because the riders in front were on a completely different level.”
"It's a recurring issue in recent races. We need to increase our speed to keep up with the leading competitors."
"We received crucial insights and implemented significant adjustments to determine the best course of action to maintain strong performance throughout a race."
"Things were going fairly typical during the race until the final lap when I lost control at the waterfall and slipped back two spots."
"Although it's not perfect, I'd prefer to drop two spots than to enter the summer break feeling defeated."
Reflecting on his performance, Acosta acknowledged that the race was challenging, as he faced another tough weekend overall.
The GASGAS rider managed to secure seventh place, which was a commendable recovery effort. However, both he and KTM struggled once again to compete with Ducati and even fell short of matching Miguel Oliveira's performance on his Aprilia.
Acosta mentioned that the race was challenging, particularly after a weekend filled with various problems. However, he found it beneficial to encounter these difficulties ahead of his visit to the factory in Austria the following week, as it would allow them to address the issues collaboratively.
“We are generally pleased with how the first half of the season has gone. We've been improving with each round, but there's still a lot of work ahead of us!"
