Binder’s Spin-Out: KTM Rider Explains Aragon Sprint Setback, Eyes Clean Start Sunday
KTM rider Brad Binder explains the issues that led to a disastrous start in the Aragon sprint on Saturday.
Brad Binder managed to recover from a poor start and ended the sprint race at Aragon with a decent finish, even though his chances for a podium finish disappeared early on.
Binder started in seventh place and felt confident he could finish in the top three, but he faced significant challenges almost immediately.
"I was at a disadvantage right from the beginning," the KTM racer stated.
"Right after taking off, I began to rotate. It kept spinning all the way up to the first turn."
“I approached Turn 1 at such a low speed that I couldn't brake firmly enough to detach my equipment, raise the rear, or unclip the front."
“I ended up staying down for nearly the entire first lap! It was pretty rough.
"I fell behind significantly at the beginning. Afterward, I worked on regaining my momentum and advancing."
"I made several errors. Overall, a poor beginning with a significant spin left us at a disadvantage, and I overexerted myself trying to recover."
“We are optimistic that we can start smoothly on Sunday.”
Binder ended up securing the sixth position in the sprint race.
Jack Miller, a teammate, expressed his thoughts on placing 13th: "The track conditions were unusual, almost resembling a wet surface. It was impossible to make any sudden movements."
Oliveira 'felt sluggish'
Trackhouse racer Miguel Oliveira secured the eighth position in qualifying and crossed the finish line in the sprint race in fifth place. He commented: "We need to focus on the positives. We advanced by three spots and earned points."
"In contrast, I felt sluggish on the bike and didn't think I was competitive."
Challenging to halt, tough to control the wear on the rear tire, and difficult to handle the front tire.
"I anticipate that Sunday will be more challenging. The team is currently focused on figuring out how to maximize the package's performance."
"We are completely concentrating on the opportunity to earn points."
"The car appears to have good speed, but the track poses some challenges for us."
Bastianini's Challenging Qualifying
Ducati rider Enea Bastianini faced difficulties during qualifying, securing the 14th spot, but managed to climb to seventh place in the sprint race.
He responded by saying, “The experience during qualifying was intense for me.
"I experimented with various approaches and altered the beginning, but the outcome remained the same. I put in my best effort."
"It was not feasible to advance straight to Q2. My sprint began from the 14th position."
During the sprint, the track conditions got better. I felt at ease and found it much simpler to navigate.
“Being in seventh place feels satisfying, and I’m content with that.”
