Binder’s Rolling Burnout and Miller’s Rins Encounter Highlight Aragon MotoGP Drama
Brad Binder exclaimed, “I did another rolling burnout!” Meanwhile, Jack Miller mentioned he was "caught by Rins."
Brad Binder: "I devised an excellent strategy last night to avoid spinning at the start…"
Brad Binder had his best MotoGP weekend in terms of points since the start of the season in Qatar, finishing 4th and 6th at the Aragon race.
This occurred even though he spun out at the start of both races, despite his seventh-place position being on the cleaner part of a messy grid.
Throughout the middle portion of the race, Binder was trailing rookie Pedro Acosta. This duel turned into a contest for third place when Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia clashed 5 laps before the finish.
However, Acosta remained just beyond grasp.
“I came up with a solid strategy last night to avoid losing control at the start, and I did another rolling burnout just like I did yesterday!” Binder said with a smile.
"I navigated through and overtook several riders. It was challenging to avoid errors as the front tire overheated while following others, especially up until the final quarter of the race."
"I attempted to gain time when exiting the corners since I couldn't enter them quickly due to the front overheating. However, this strategy backfired as the left side of the tire wore out completely by the end."
"I did everything I could to overtake Pedro, but there was no room left behind!"
"Aside from that, we took some very positive strides this weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective throughout the race."
Fellow racer Jack Miller had a powerful start, moving from 15th place on the grid to eighth by the conclusion of the first lap. However, it wasn't long before the Australian encountered difficulties with rear traction.
Following a last-lap battle where Alex Rins overtook him for ninth place, he ended up receiving a 16-second penalty for tyre pressure violations, along with two other riders, which ultimately pushed him down to 15th position.
“It was a lengthy race,” Miller remarked. “The track conditions varied once more; it has been mostly dirty throughout the weekend but felt slipperier today.”
"I put in my maximum effort. It was challenging to manage the [medium] rear tire, and I experienced a significant highside incident while exiting the final corner."
"I found my pace and focused on maintaining it. Transitioning from the outer edge to the center of the tire presented several challenges, but I managed to finish the race."
"I didn't make any errors during the race, but I found it difficult to keep up with the guys ahead. We'll continue to work hard."
"Glad to finish in the top ten, but on the final lap, Rins managed to overtake me on the back straight. I tried my best to stay accurate, but I didn't get a good acceleration and he outpaced me on the straight.”
“We’ll return to Misano.”
Test rider Pol Espargaro will be added as a wild-card entry, increasing KTM's total participants to five this weekend.
“Next, head to Misano with an eye on the subsequent test and Pol’s wildcard entry, which will provide us with some future assistance,” stated team manager Francesco Guidotti.
The initial Misano MotoGP race will see Binder trailing Acosta by three points, with Acosta currently in fifth place in the world championship standings.
Miller, potentially set to be officially announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider at the team's home races in Italy, is currently in 15th place and trails Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo by three points.
