Binder’s Rolling Burnout and Miller’s Last-Lap Heartbreak: Highlights from Aragon MotoGP
Brad Binder: "I did another rolling burnout!" Jack Miller: "Rins got ahead of me at the last moment."
Brad Binder: "I came up with a solid strategy last night to avoid spinning my wheels at the start…"
Brad Binder achieved his best MotoGP results since the season began in Qatar, securing fourth and sixth place finishes at Aragon.
This occurred despite him veering off course in both competitions, although his seventh-place finish was on the better side of a cluttered starting lineup.
During the middle phase of the race, Binder trailed rookie Pedro Acosta. This pursuit turned into a contest for third place when Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia clashed with 5 laps remaining.
However, Acosta remained slightly beyond grasp.
"I came up with a solid strategy last night to avoid spinning out at the start, and I executed a rolling burnout just like I did the day before!" Binder said with a smile.
"I navigated my way through and overtook several competitors. It was challenging to avoid errors as the front tire was overheating while trailing others up until the final part of the race."
"I attempted to gain time by accelerating out of the corners since I couldn't approach them quickly due to the front tire overheating. However, this strategy backfired as the left side of the tire was completely worn out by the end."
"I gave it my all to overtake Pedro, but I had no more power left in the car."
"Aside from that, we made several positive strides this weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective over the course of the race."
Fellow racer Jack Miller had a powerful start, moving up from 15th place on the grid to eighth position by the conclusion of the first lap. However, it wasn't long before the Australian faced difficulties with rear tire traction.
After being overtaken by Alex Rins in the final lap and losing the ninth position, he was one of three competitors penalized with a 16-second post-race time penalty for tyre pressure violations, which relegated him to 15th place.
"It was a lengthy race," Miller remarked. "The track conditions varied once more; it had been dirty for most of the weekend but felt more slippery today."
"I gave it my all. It was tough to manage the rear tire, and I experienced a major highside incident while exiting the final corner."
"I found my stride and focused on maintaining it. There were several challenges when transitioning from the tire's edge to its center… but I managed to finish successfully."
"There were no errors during the race, but I had difficulty keeping up with the leading competitors. We'll continue to work hard."
"Glad to finish in the top ten, although Rins managed to overtake me on the back straight during the final lap. I was striving for precision, but unfortunately, I didn't get a good drive and he was able to outpace me on the straightaway."
“We will return to Misano.”
This weekend, KTM will have five riders on the track as test rider Pol Espargaro joins as a wild-card entry.
“Next, we head to Misano, where we will also focus on the subsequent test and benefit from Pol's wildcard, which should provide valuable assistance for the future,” stated team manager Francesco Guidotti.
The initial Misano MotoGP race will commence with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, who currently occupies the fifth position in the world championship standings.
Miller, potentially set to be formally announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider at the team's home races in Italy, is currently in 15th place and trails Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo by three points.
