Binder Battles Burnouts and Miller Faces Grip Woes at Aragon: A Weekend of Highs and Lows in MotoGP
Brad Binder: “I did another rolling burnout!”
Jack Miller: “Rins just edged me out.”
Brad Binder: “Last night, I devised a strategy to avoid spinning out at the start…”
Brad Binder achieved his best MotoGP results since the season opener in Qatar, finishing in 4th and 6th place at the Aragon race weekend.
This occurred even though he veered off course in both races, and his seventh-place finish came from the more favorable side of a grid that was in poor condition.
Throughout the middle portion of the race, Binder trailed behind the newcomer Pedro Acosta. This pursuit turned into a fight for the third position when Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia collided with five laps remaining.
However, Acosta managed to stay just beyond grasp.
“I came up with a solid strategy last night to avoid losing traction at the start, and I executed a rolling burnout just like I did yesterday!” Binder said with a smile.
"I navigated through and overtook a few competitors. It was challenging to avoid errors as the front tire was overheating due to trailing behind others until the final part of the race."
"I attempted to gain time coming out of the corners since I couldn't go in too quickly due to the front overheating. However, this strategy backfired, and in the end, the left side of the tire was completely worn out."
"I did everything I could to overtake Pedro, but there was no traction left at the back!"
"We made several positive strides this weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective throughout the race."
Jack Miller, a team-mate, had a strong start by moving from 15th position on the grid to 8th place by the conclusion of the first lap. However, the Australian rider quickly faced challenges with maintaining rear grip.
He initially finished in tenth place, right behind Alex Rins, but was later penalized with a 16-second post-race penalty for tyre pressure violations, which demoted him to 15th.
"It was a lengthy race," Miller commented. "The track conditions varied once more; it has been quite dirty throughout the weekend, but today it felt more slippery."
"I gave it my all. It was really challenging to manage the [medium] rear tire, and I experienced a significant highside incident while exiting the final turn."
"I found my pace and focused on maintaining it. There were several challenges when transitioning from the tyre's edge to its center, but I managed to finish successfully."
"There were no errors during the race, but I found it difficult to keep up with the guys ahead of me. We’ll keep pushing forward."
"Thrilled to finish in the top ten, but Rins managed to overtake me on the back straight during the final lap. I was focused on being as accurate as possible, but unfortunately, I didn't get a good acceleration, and he was able to pass me."
“We will return to Misano.”
This weekend, KTM's lineup will include five riders as test rider Pol Espargaro joins as a wild-card entry.
“Next, we head to Misano, where we will also be focusing on the upcoming test and Pol's wildcard, which should provide us with some valuable insights for the future,” stated team manager Francesco Guidotti.
The initial Misano MotoGP race will commence with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, as Acosta currently occupies fifth place in the world championship standings.
Miller might be formally announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider at the team's home races in Italy. He currently holds the 15th position, trailing Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo by three points.
