Enea Bastianini clinched Ducati's milestone 100th Grand Prix victory through a contentious final-lap maneuver against Jorge Martin during the Emilia Romagna MotoGP race.
Both competitors veered off the track following the maneuver, yet managed to stay on their bikes.
Unexpectedly, it seems the FIM Stewards did not conduct an inquiry into the incident, allowing Bastianini to rightfully claim his place at the pinnacle of the podium, with the results officially validated.
In any case, Martin has surged ahead by 24 points over Francesco Bagnaia in the global championship rankings following the Italian's dramatic exit due to a crash.
Bagnaia experienced his seventh non-finish of the season after losing control of the front end during braking as he attempted to close the gap on Martin and Bastianini, with 7 laps remaining.
Martin continued to be heavily challenged by Bastianini, who remained closely behind the Pramac Ducati rider ever since they both overtook a slower-moving Bagnaia at the beginning of the race.
On the last lap, Bastianini made a daring move on the inside of Martin at the Turn 4 hairpin…
In the meantime, Ducati secured the constructors' championship for 2024.
Marc Marquez, the victor in San Marino, who had anticipated finishing fourth again on Saturday, was elevated to third place due to Bagnaia's mistake.
The Gresini competitor gained an advantage when Brad Binder and Pedro Acosta were eliminated due to crashes that occurred in front of him.
As anticipated, the majority of competitors opted to change from the soft rear tire used during the Sprint to a medium rear tire for the 27-lap primary race.
Nevertheless, Marco Bezzecchi, who finished eighth the previous day, took a gamble with the soft rear tire.
The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix served as the second back-to-back race at Misano, introduced to the schedule as a replacement for the called-off India/Kazakhstan races.
Joan Mir from Repsol Honda was unable to participate in the entire San Marino Grand Prix because of severe gastroenteritis, leading to his teammate also pulling out of the Sunday race due to illness.
This weekend saw the comeback of the Honda competitors, however, Alex Rins of Monster Yamaha had to pull out of the event on Saturday morning because he was unwell.
Updated regulations for tyre pressure in 2024 stipulate that racers are required to maintain a minimum pressure of 1.8 bar in the front tyres (reduced from 1.88 bar) for 60% (previously 50%) of a Grand Prix race distance, or 30% for a Sprint event.
If a driver doesn't achieve the minimum requirement in a Grand Prix, they will receive a time penalty of 16 seconds after the race, or a penalty of 8 seconds in a Sprint or shorter race.
MotoGP is set to move directly to Mandalika for the upcoming Indonesian Grand Prix, scheduled for next weekend.
