Austrian MotoGP: Event Summary
The rain stayed away for Bagnaia, enabling the Italian rider to secure his seventh Grand Prix victory of the season and achieve his third double win following his Sprint triumph yesterday. Martin finished comfortably in second place, five seconds ahead of Bastianini, who took third. Marquez managed to recover strongly after a mishap at the first turn, finishing in fourth place.
With just two laps remaining, Bagnaia has extended his lead to 1.8 seconds.
Martin is once again outpacing Bagnaia, but the gap remains at 1.7 seconds as they enter the final three laps.
Martin gains a few tenths of a second this lap while Bagnaia's time falls into the 1:31 range. However, with only four laps remaining, Martin will need to improve his pace even further.
Bagnaia maintains a lead of two seconds ahead of Martin. With only five laps remaining, any rainfall at this point would be reminiscent of the conditions from 2021.
Bagnaia's advantage is now approaching two seconds. It seems like only a downpour could prevent him from securing his seventh victory of the season at this stage.
Currently, there aren't many significant changes happening at the front of the race. The most intense competition right now is for the seventh position, involving Maverick Vinales, Aleix Espargaro, and Franco Morbidelli.
Bagnaia has returned to lap times in the 1:30s for the last two laps, maintaining a similar pace to Martin. He currently holds a 1.7-second lead.
Marquez overtakes Binder at turn six to claim fourth position, but he remains eight seconds behind Bastianini.
Marquez overtakes Bezzecchi at turn 2a, while Binder moves up to fourth place ahead of him.
Bagnaia returns to the 29-second lap times and extends his lead to 1.6 seconds. Meanwhile, Marquez continues his efforts to overtake Bezzecchi.
Martin improved his lap time, but it was Bagnaia who slowed down into the 1:30 range.
At the halfway mark, Bagnaia has extended his lead to more than one second. In the meantime, Quartararo has been handed a long lap penalty.
Bagnaia is making another effort currently. He was 0.3 seconds quicker than Martin on the 12th lap, and similarly faster on the 13th lap as Martin's times fell into the 1:30 range.
Bagnaia maintains his lead, while Marquez has closed in on the fight for fourth place alongside Bezzecchi and Binder.
The front runners remain quite stationary. It seems like both are in a waiting mode. Bastianini trails by two seconds, with a five-second gap back to Binder.
Jack Miller experienced a crash at the chicane. He is uninjured and on his feet, but clearly annoyed.
Despite the situation up front remaining unchanged, Bagnaia and Martin continue to distance themselves from Bastianini. However, clouds are starting to form, which is definitely not in Bagnaia's favor.
Marquez has advanced to the seventh position and is now challenging Miller for sixth place.
Bagnaia's attempt to distance himself from Martin failed, leading him to reduce his speed to a 29.8 on the ninth lap.
Bagnaia remains in the lead, setting a new record for the fastest lap of the race with a time of 1:29.5. Martin is still close behind.
Bagnaia counters with a 29.6 lap time, yet it fails to unsettle Martin. Meanwhile, Bastianini trails by 1.3 seconds from the front.
